Should I Be Worried?

Have you considered getting them from a different hatchery? Me and my friend ordered a total of 40 chicks from Cackle, however when they arrived their were 60. Part of the reason they did this was because my friend had to change some of her breeds because the hatchery wasn’t going have enough chicks of her fancy breeds to fill their orders… so they compensated her. But I was reading on their website that they always send you an extra of each breed that you order in case one dies (they did this for me). All of our chicks arrived alive and out of the 60 chicks we lost 6… plus I ordered straight run and I got a fair mix of males and females… it doesn’t seem right that the hatchery didn’t send you at least one extra for each order… I know this proly won’t fix your shipping problem but then who knows…

It was not the hatcheries fault. The usps had a fault in their system she said she only had 3 die.. we ordered 300 from them and all but 6 lived. We ordered 200 last year from cackle only 40 survived, they dropped like flyes.

I realize that it was UPS that made a mistake...

I just thought it strange that they didn’t send extras is all (because perhaps they should)… I don’t have much experience with hatchery chicks myself… because I usually buy mine at poultry shows or hatch my own… my friend does though and she has always had very good luck with cackle… out of curiosity did cackle replace all the chicks that died? i am sorry your school lost so many of their chicks

on a side note the six of ours that died, died several days after we got them… I do not blame cackle hatchery for it… our chicks had a very long way to go in transit… I was surprised we didn’t lose more. thats why i recomended cackle that and they dealt honestly with us ... i was not trying to put Meyer down... i do not know enough about Meyer to have any ideas about them
