Should I break the law??

I think neighbors really don't complain unless they are irritated by something. If your coop is odor free, I doubt they have anything to complain about. And if they ask about them, you can tell them a sad story.

I say go for it. This is still a free country and your not hurting anyone with a couple of exotic free ranging ground parrots.

I would also look into the ordinance a bit, sometimes those people get confused. the 1 acre could have been for folks closer to the city.

make a dog house 4'x4' Paint the name Fito over the top of the door, and who's going to think anything? It's a dog house, (4x4) will house 4 hens

Anybody asks, and you are just babysitting them. You live in the county, nobody is going to question you. They will assume it's ok. Don't act like it's a problem or sneak around or people will get suspicious.

Or better yet, say you were planning on getting a dog, but the kind you want are really really noisy and messy. So you decided to get chickens. If you end up getting rid of your chickens for some reason, then you'll get the dog, but for now you'll just stick with chickens. Won't be a problem, trust me.

Hey maybe we can start a group on here about who is going againist code. Count me in I spent 1 week trying to get a copy of the HOA bylaws finally went to courthouse and dug for them, blah blahblah no nuisence. I have 2 1/2 acres with trees along both fences to my side neighbors the behind neighbor is single so if he starts gripping my sister is single LOL. Then I find out after I ordered that even though the area where I live is 5 miles from the town that incororated it 2 years ago no chickens local fire cheif and I were talking he said just don't sell anything. He had to stop twice on my short road for the neighbors quineas to cross the road. There is supposedily a leash law also whatever I finally brought my schnoodle out from the city (relative have been taking care of him) and put him in his kennel ( for his safety ) the next morning there were 4 neighborhood dogs surrounding it and trying to dig under. Don't worry I am getting a really good deal on some expanded metal and I am going to bury it around the chicken run. I am getting a rooster have read alot about keeping him seperate at night from the girls and dark so I am going to try that.I have even been thinking about camoflaging the side to the back neighbor Lowes has some inexpensive pressed board that has camoflage on one side and you can't see it from the front road. If I have trouble I have a place to take my chickens while I go there with the city council that their ordinances were in place long before they incororated a huge chunk of rural land and you do not even want to know how much of our property taxes go to them. So long story short I also am in your boat.

With regard to the fence shrubs, get some established bamboo and plant it all along, but it can invade places so that may not be an option, but it looks beautiful when it sways in the wind.
How wide is the back boundary?
A few second hand garden sheds placed next to each other will do the trick and also cut down on noise too, and provide a rain shelter for the chickens and storage for all your othert stuff too. Heck, you can have fun painting murals on them too. Just a thought.

lol this is funny . i own 2 1/2 acers the lady who sold us the land said no old cars no livestock an no trailers. well i didnt break the rules for a while until the guy over the road put in a doublewide lol she had a fit went to him an told him he couldnt do it but the guy who drew up the pappers on all her land she sold left out all the rules . check ur papper work it might not be in it.

KV,
Backyard Chickens does not condone breaking the law...

You know what the regulations are in your area. The decision to go against those regulations is entirely your call, but remember, not only would you be breaking the law if you get caught, you risk breaking your heart if you lose your hens.

Several people on this board and the other BYC have gone to the zoning boards or whomever governs the regulations in their area and fought to have the laws changed or asked for exceptions.

Please think about the consequences before acting.

GO FOR IT.
I would get three or four hens.
No roosters!
If you get busted, dont blame us.
Good luck with your new flock of hens.
I started with 4 hens and now I have 15 hens and a rooster.

well i own a silkie hen and shes a really quit young girl...and very tame, nice and willing to be your friend...but they lay 3 eggs a week........so yeah.
