Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

scrambles, moving is the plan... so the house has been on the market since early October of last year. no one has come to tour the house, but we knew that was unlikely, winter here is brutal, and while I moved here in January, (2001), during a blizzard, 2' of fresh snow accumulated when the big truck finally pulled in... I think I am the only one fool enough to take on such a task...! it'll take a while, despite having the house priced to sell...and that's okay, I do love it here, kinda hate to give it up, but my family lives out west, so it's time to join them.

CLindz, those pics are precious! the kids are so cute and they look like they are having a blast with Rawley!

we had great weather this afternoon, upper 20's, scattered sunshine, no wind... so the flock got out for about 90 minutes. even the Fosters finally emerged! it was fun...!

they didn't break any 2014 record today, but I still collected 15 Eggs. I call that a good day.

I broke down and took Mylee's kiddy pool and filled it with dirt. the dome lost their dust bath last week with the melt. it's been packed with straw to absorb the water and is not usable... they wouldn't use it after free range, but they ALL pecked around the edges... in the morning, I bet I find it packed full of birds in a dirt stupor!

looks like Royce and his Foster girls are planning a road trip to the produce section at WalMart... I left the key in the small tractor...

she finally has a camouflage success story! I had to change the exposure so she would show up! love her littleness so much!

Well Hello! I'm Wilma, from Dome Enterprises Realty, I'll be happy to sell you the place for whatever food you have in your pockets...

I just realized my poem was a big lie. I have no coop. No coop and no way to build one in the 2 feet of snow we have. I get points for creativity and flair but none for planning!

oh no worries mortie, you'll have time. first off, you have 2 weeks before they hatch and a couple of months at the most for brooder babies to grow out enough to move into a coop... but once that snow melts, you've gotta get serious!

NOTHING is going my way right now!!!!! GRRRRR.........

I called a guy that I found on Craigslist about building a workshop building for my husband. I explained where we were without giving him the address, and asked if he could come build it. He told me yes, that it was farther than he normally came, but that he could do it. He even had me text him what dimensions we wanted, shingle colors ect, and told me he would call a few days before he was coming to start it. He called me on Friday and asked me if he could come on Monday.... I told him yes that was fine, and texted him the actual address.
Well, the guy was supposed to be here on Monday, but he texted me tonight and told me that he thought I lived in "Xtown", and that where I live is too far for him to come to build it...... I live about 15 minutes tops from "Xtown"! And honestly, the other end of our road has "Xtown" addresses!!!!!! This is the second time that someone has backed out of building this building! I am ready to give up.....

That sucks Lindz!!!! I get so frustrated when I have to depend on other people! Thankfully I married a contractor so now I only have to get frustrated with my husband!!! And I'm good at that!!! LOL!!!

How annoying Lindz! People on cl can be so unreliable. Are you going to keep looking for someone?

Yeah...brooders...I don't think I can keep more than about 8 chicks in my house for long. This is going to be very interesting...

aw lindz, don't give up! it will come together! I always find it staggering when people turn down work. always. I wonder how many people are beating down his door for construction jobs at this time of year??? frankly, I like to eat... so I take jobs, and show up. wish I could send handyman down to y'all... he's so reliable, and does such professional work............. you need someone who's hungry.

My husband can build the building, we just wanted to hurry and have it built without him having to take off to get it done quickly. It would take him at least a month or two to get it done, and we have other things we need to be working on. This guy works with his sons and have great testimonials ect..... they were going to build a 12x24 for $3150..... now I'm stuck trying to figure something out again.... Hubby's tools ect, are still at our old house, which is my grandmother's property.... It is just so aggravating!

Its about 9 degrees here with a wind chill of -15. The wind blew a piece of the chicken run top off. I figure that I will leave it off until the wind dies down. I woke up with a chest cold, so making jam is not on my agenda for the weekend. Gotta mix a batch of feed and clean the coop poop and give fresh ACV water. Then make some chicken noodle soup.

ONE egg from Rumples so far and she sang the egg song mixed in with an alarm song. I think that I scare her a bit.

We were in the upper 30's today, with the windchill bringing it down to 36*. Not too bad!
I still have to get the brooder cleaned out, and it is sitting out in the yard filled with ice/water. It is just a storage tote. It doubled as a nest box when I had the gang in the garden last Fall. So it is poopy on the outside.

I know! I know! It is just chicken poo. It is one thing to have poo on my hand, it is another to bring a tote in the house, wiping that poo on every door way, then the shower curtain. I plan on cleaning it next weekend (2 days in the upper 30's) if I must. I will keep my eye on the 10 day forecast. I am really hoping the temps get in the mid forties at least before the nineteenth. The poult(s) come on the 20th!
Sorry you are feeling sick too. I am huffing Vet Rx. I may even sink to rubbing it on my head and wattles. No point putting it under my wings. I don't stick my nose there for some strange reason!

There is a place closer to Philadelphia, PA that charges more than twice what anyone else does for birds. They are from Ideal (like everyone else's chicks).
What kind of prices do you guys pay at the feed stores?
An example is that BBW/BBB turkeys are $5 where I am getting them, $6 straight run, and $7 sexed at Meyer hatchery, and $12 at this feed store.
I am paying $8.50 for my Bourbon Reds, $10.50 at Meyer, $19 at this place.
Those are the prices I remember for examples.
