Quote:ummmm..I don't honestly know! There's about 23 in the egg coop.![]()
26 pullets at just 5 weeks, my new layers for this year!
I also have 5 OEGB I hatched from my own, all red Pyle.
And 7 maran chicks from eggs I ordered last month.
Oh, and 9 silkie chicks from a friends FREE eggs, they were as old as 3 weeks!
He gave me 46 eggs, and 9 hatched! so about 70-80 total?
They come and go so often I lose track.
I sold all my extra GLW and am down to my original 3 adults, Red, Spike and Betsy. Kept 1 extra hen (to be named) thats super sweet.
The egg totals are from all the birds, Geese, ducks, turkeys quail. My guinea, peas and muscovy aren't at laying season yet.
One, One, today we laid One![]()
The feeling I got as if the lottery I won,
I've been checking and checking to see when they lay
Imagine my surprise that today was the day
Some pie and treats and scratch galore
I'm hoping tomorrow brings me some more
It wasn't in the nest but it was on the floor right near the nest so I'm hoping they'll figure it out.
I've had fake eggs in the nest for a while now.
It's one of the Marans for sure but the one with the really red comb/wattles isn't squatting while the other one is... hmmmm
What's ironic is we were down to 1 egg in the fridge and I made DH buy another dozen yesterday.

Loved the poem!![]()
Congrats! Mine are laying every other day now, finally! I found a Birchen Maran roo.
I am meeting a fellow Indiana BYCer to get the roo this weekend, she has one she doesn't want!
Quote: YAY! He is quite handsome, can't say I blame herSilkies lay a light tan almost white egg, every egg I have set has a slightly different shade.![]()
I hope my little Snow comes through soon!
She has taken a liking to the buff partridge roo, so hoping to have a nice batch of silkies soon.
He has an excellent personality, laid back and super sweet.
Awesome! I get an egg or 2 more every day, ya spring!Wowzie!! That is a beautiful egg!! That is what I am looking for. If only Rumples would make up her mind about being broody. Maybe I will get 6 eggs just for giggles... although I know that I will stress out. After all... it is time for the Easter Egg hatch a long.
TWO... TWO... we got TWO eggs today.![]()
Si is sitting on the nest...
Really trying to do her best..
We might get THREE today..... Hooray!!
Hey guys... still feel crappy, and now I'm losing my voice.
Congrats Clindz! I still have one Marans pullet, so maybe she will start laying soon. The cochins are not laying yet either... little moochers!
Not much else going on around here other than everyone sick and Ratchet being a bad dog! The littles are hitting the ugly, raggedy stage. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow.

Have you noticed once they mature, they seem to get that way? Red was a pure pistol, but now he is my tag along.my roo is an EE, and he's the only LF roo I've kept over the seasons. he's quite a big boy. we get along very well. lots of mutual respect...
Really glad i kept him.
It goes fast. I still get nervous when they join the big coop! I have about a dozen going out in a week, so i have to do rooster duty this week.Very striking roo!
Rest up and feel better, Lindz and Scrambles.
I am so excited! Tomorrow, after work, I get to go pick up my CL eggs for the hatchalong! I hope they hatch.
Also, I tomorrow evening, after dark, I plan to go sneak the no-so-littles in the big girls' coop. Unless I chicken out. It's silly how excited I am to have the NYD chicks grow up and join the real flock.
Also, as of today, my chickens have laid 98 eggs. If both hens lay tomorrow, they will be at 100! Another silly thing, but one that makes me happy and grateful to them.
Hard to believe that two months ago I was whining at them for being freeloaders.
At least its warmer out. The 4 boys in question are causing a lot of fights, time for them to go.
Ugh, poor lil guy. Hopefully he will be fine.Just came in from locking up the coops. Doing nightly rounds. Found one of my chicks with his toe stuck in the run of the roost bar in the brooder coop. Not sure how longs he's been there either. But doesn't seen broke, just numb. He isn't holding his right wing or right foot to his body. Set him up in his own box in the brooder coop, with some water, and will see how he looks in the morning. *sigh*

they are really bold. Nasty creatures too!I just saw my first opossum. It was standing right outside my back door. I thought it was going to come in! It wasn't bothered by me, the dog or the flashlight. Big thing!
It's not silly to get excited over chicken events! At least not on BYC. If I start talking chickens to the uninitiated, I get those bemused knowing looks or the big eye rolls. Sometimes people even seem to be a bit freaked out by it!Very striking roo!

They're strange little critters, aren't they? They stay calm-ish and it keeps the dogs from going all predatory on them. I've seen one keel over and play dead. Seemed like it was in a coma, and not playing at all.I just saw my first opossum. It was standing right outside my back door. I thought it was going to come in!
