Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

ugghhhh at work this morning! I shouldn't complain but how am I going to check for eggs every 5 min?

Been letting the girls free range while I'm home but I'm not staying out there with them. It's amazing how adorable they are when they're free ranging and they hear me come outside. It really makes you feel loved. Phylis is always the leader and comes tearing across the yard. Everytime they go out they get more and more brave with the exploring. Which is good because we want them to eat bugs which they can't do cooped up in the run.

It's only 7:49. I have to make it til 3:30...ahhhhh it's going to be a long day!

Hi, Heather7!

Welcome to BYC, and this thread! Please post. Tell us what you have, and how old!

No one sang the eggsong for me today (Thanks for the video!) and no eggs were found under the perch in the brooder. Freeloaders. The grit and greens are being eyed with suspicion...

No eggs yet, but when I got home from work, I brought out treats for the girls and Si came running out of the coop. As soon as she had some BOSS, she ran back into the coop. The girls have been digging their own nests on the coop floor. I guess that the other 2 spares are not to their liking.

lindz, that at least doesn't look too severe, I've seen way worse that did fine... actually, Blue Cochin, Delilah, has a slight cross beak.

I had a very long day, but very productive - didn't get home til 5 after 6 but I let the flock out for an hour. got some good pics, but the card reader is acting up so I have to haul out the laptop again. I'll do it later... but the bantam boys were the boldest yet in approaching hens. RIR Red got a couple to squat for him, but he is way too small to do the deed. I only have the 3 bantam girls, Peach, Sillie and Esther. Esther looks like she's been squatting for Dutch or Brutus, she's missing just a few head feathers where a roo would latch on... I need some bantam pullets

20 Eggs today

Yay Rumples!

Cheeka, I am going to just watch and make sure that it doesn't get too bad. If it starts having issues eating and drinking, I will probably cull it. Can't wait to see the pictures, and Peach is about due to go broody isn't she?

I had a low egg day. There was one broken in the nest this morning, and then I got 7 more. Eleanore has laid 3 times this past week, and they have all been big eggs. I know 1 is a double yolk, if they all aren't..... I didn't get another BCM egg today, but it was late yesterday when she laid. I am hoping to get another one tomorrow.

I seriously hope so! we had a lot of snow melt today, the weather is definitely changing - finally! - I can have that broody pen ready in less than a week if need be... and if she waits til mid April, it will already be ready for her. I know she brooded earlier last year, but she was inside and warm and cozy. it's not the same this year. she'll come through!
