Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

http://youtu.be/dAbqdylyvls <~~ Scrambling after Scrambled Eggs. these were the first few tosses, then I had to make sure the boys and the Fosters got some and they were ranging on the other side of the yard. I wish my camera took better video, very grainy... I will try my android phone next time.

Tiger and Peach... Tiger hated Peach, tormented her endlessly... until Silkie hatched and started to grow up. Tiger and Sillie Soo bonded so tight that it ended the dispute with Mama. still amazes me to see them all cozy together.

after yesterday's stellar performance, 10 Eggs today is a bit disappointing.

OMgoodness... Looked out the window before jeopardy started and saw no dog at the end of the leash! Ran outside w hubby and started calling and clapping. After only a few seconds Rawley came bounding outta the woods to me like I was his long lost mommy!!!!! And no chickens were harmed in this adventure even tho they were out free ranging and he ran right past them!!!!

There must be a little magic in the Silkies. Some of the Serama hens are tiny tyrants and pick on the Cochins. They go racing over to the Silkie, who protects them, but she's not mean about it. Happily, all are going in to roost at night without assistance. Maybe the rooster will get out of concentration camp this weekend.

I hope so - little guy is probably bereft without his ladies... silly boy just doesn't quite grasp the concept that they could all be his... he'll come around...it doesn't matter if he isn't big enough to mount the Cochins, although... he might be able to - my 2 that live in the dome with the girls get all of them to squat even tho' they can't get beyond the saddle

We got TWO eggs today!! Pouring down rain all day long. The power at work went out so I came home. It rained so hard that the nest box was leaking. Poor Rump was a little wet, so I put a piece of tin over the nest box. Went to dinner with DH and he told me to come up with a plan for a NEW COOP!!!!!! Whee!

He's been a real goober. This weekend he got into a fight with my buff Ameraucana hen, through a plastic fence. Both of them were covered in blood.

Amazing how much those combs bleed. No serious damage for either, but obviously not all hens are created equal in his view. Anything that's bigger than him is a threat.

Keeping him separate is giving me a chance to fine tune the roosting for the girls. Those two terrible tiny tyrant Seramas are pretty aggressive with the Cochins (who are sooooo sweet!), and one in particular pecks them off the roost.

I was spying on them tonight to see the flock dynamics and have decided to add a second roost up higher for the tiny tyrants, leaving a lower, wider roost for the Cochin/Silkie trio.

I worry about the ones who get picked on, gets my protective maternal instincts all riled up! Surprised at how aggressive and territorial the Seramas are. Maybe I should try to get my boy to raise Cochins instead. He really wants d'Anvers. Hmmmmm.... I sense too many chickens in my future!
