Scrambles when I was looking at the snippet on my subscription page all I could think was cats in the freezer.... totally confused me for a second! Catfish never entered my mind and I had forgotten about you fishing! Lol

Hi NCM! and welcome! I've noticed you lurking, so I'm glad you've posted - on the molting Pie front, protein. they need additional protein for all their functions when it comes to laying eggs and growing feathers. other than that, x2 on what everyone else said...

love those chicks W4W... they are precious. I'm wantin' some peeps... and no one is broody. although, both Esther and Sillie think about it.

13 Eggs today, probably not going to find any more... but that's okay, tomorrow will be a big egg day I bet. it had better be anyway... I have 8 dozen paked and ready to deliver tomorrow!

TWO.......
Well... I let Meanie in with his siblings this afternoon. Isolation and free range with the big girls seems to have put him in check for the time being. He will sleep in the dog crate though. I left the door to the pen opened and Penny walked in a promptly began to pick on poor Rumples. The chicks ran everyway they could. I chased Penny out.
Rumples was confined to the grow out pen for five days with no therapy. I feel bad. I am devoting this weekend to integrating the flock and therapy for Rump.
Gotta go sit and watch the chickens now.

someone is skeet shooting up the road, and it's driving poor Chester bonkers, which in turn... is driving me bonkers because of his incessant barking. oh well. it's going to be dark soon and they'll have to stop - they don't have glow in the dark skeet's do they???

anyway, I got another late evening egg... nice blue one. so I end the day with 14

Did I say I had a plan?! Oh sure!

The 3rd and final nest is supposed to hatch Thursday. Guess what I found today.

Meet our latest addition, Bueno! (Mustacheio just started saying bueno and it stuck.

Fortunately I was up near the coop in the garden and noticed Coffee off the nest, so thought I'd just go check on the eggs. Found a little, still wet chick laying there! Coffee seemed to be taking her sweet time eating and drinking and carousing with the rooster, so I popped the wet baby under Bunny, the Cochin, dutifully sitting on her 2 eggs-that-will-never-hach right next door. Bunny seemed to take the chick just fine. Hopefully she will be as good a mama as Cheeka's Peach.

Coffee enjoyed a dust bath and was off the nest for almost 30 mins! If it had been colder, the chick may not have survived Coffee's excursion. Strangely, the chick was not peeping at all, so I wondered if the hen was even aware it had arrived. She should not be leaving the nest for 2 days once eggs start hatching.

None of the others broodies did. I guess not all broodies are created equal.

Bunny seems up to the job!

Hello everybody. Wanted to drop in and say Hi. Lost one of my original eight last week. A Golden Comet that I could not get to show improvement. Declined a little every day till it was suffering so I put it down. Everybody else is fine. Roger is grounded but wanted me to tell you all hello. No broody hens for me yet. Really surprised that at least one has not gone broody. Go figure I have fertile eggs and nobody is interested. Have not read the 100 plus comments but I hope all is well for everybody. I shall return just busy with work, the garden, chickens, ect. but we will catch up. OK the last one is in. Time to gather the eggs, lock the door and go take a shower. 5 AM it starts all over again. Take care everybody:frow
