Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Ok, here is an update....

Zauk was not doing well at all this morning and I couldn't get him up. He wouldn't eat or drink since yesterday. It took me over 2 hours to get him up, outside, and in the back of the van... by myself. I got a towel underneath him and just picked him up (all 140 lbs), until he could get his feet under him. I still had to hold him up and keep him from falling. We made it through the house, down the steps and outside with some elbow grease..... Getting him in the van was a whole different ball game. He wasn't putting any weight on one of his front feet, and his whole back end was weak and wobbly. I finally just backed the van up to a small hill in the yard, put a pallet down behind it, so he just had to step up on the pallet and then about the same amount up into the van.... By the time we got all that accomplished he was exhausted, and so was I. So, he laid in the van, and I got the girls' shoes on and them in the van and headed to the vet. I dropped the girls off at my dad's because I knew I couldn't deal with them and him too.... Anyway, we got to the vet, and me and one of the techs pulled him out of the van on a blanket, and held him up while he got his feet under him. Then it was slow go getting into the office and back into an exam room. He has lots of scrapes and punctures, which makes it look like he was in a fight. But, he is also showing some neurological symptoms, with the wobbling and he is drooping one shoulder and holding his paw funny. Instead of the pads on the floor, he leaves the top of his foot on the floor instead of turning it correctly. Right now, they are just going to be giving him fluids, pain meds, and antibiotics, as well as cleaning up all of his wounds. If he isn't doing better, they may end up doing some xrays to see if there is any broken bones (they didn't feel any) or internal damage. They asked me today how far we were willing to go with treatment given his age, and potential costs. They said that in order to do xrays they would have to sedate him, but because of his breed, size and age they wouldn't feel comfortable putting him completely under. This means that if he doesn't come around with the fluids and meds, they probably will recommend putting him to sleep instead of trying to do a surgery or anything like that. I have to talk to Hubby tonight, but I think if it comes down to it we probably won't put him through any difficult treatments. This really breaks my heart, especially since we lost Parker just 2 weeks ago........

On a brighter note...... Meet Paisley. She is a parti colored yorkie, that my kids decided to buy with their birthday money. ( I tried to get approved to adopt, but was denied because my kids are under 10 yrs old.)

Paisley is just so darned cute! I'm so happy that you went for it and got her!

I had my route, an express run and the Dentist today. so I only got home now, and had time to collect the 21 Eggs (perfect 6 from the Fosters) and give them a boring snack of the same stuff they get for breakfast every day... they were cool with it, but they wanted to come out. nope, it's raining and I'm not gonna feed the foxes.

Just heard from the vet....

Zauk has Lyme disease which is probably the cause of the neurological symptoms. They said that the trauma probably caused him to go into shock, and give it a chance to become symptomatic. The good news is that he is on antibiotics and fluids and is showing some improvement! She's gonna call me in the morning and let me know how he is doing.

Good news about Zauk. My sister's dog (Neopolitan Mastiff x Bull Mastiff) lived for years with ehrlichcia, which is similar to lyme's. Dog needed to get antibiotics every 6-12 months. My sis got really good at telling when the symptoms were starting, so could prevent the bad episodes.

Could the vet tell what caused Zauk's trauma? Could it have been the evil Huskies?

Welcome to little Paisley! She's darling. Hope she likes chickens!

I think some of the rescue groups do the animals a disservice by making it so difficult and intrusive to adopt.

when you say episodes, what do you mean? My dog has erhlichia (sp?) and we've not been instructed of this same thing...but it was a while ago that she was diagnosed, maybe they've learned something about it since then. It was pretty mysterious to us when we first learned of it.

As for the animal adoptions...would you say the same of the human system of adoption?

Lymes in humans is terrible, but in dogs it's very treatable. My moms dog could barely walk and after a couple doses of antibiotics was fine!

Paisley is georgeous!!! I love Yorkies! Didn't know they came in that color.

My friend who I talked into getting chickens got her first egg today. Which mean my hooligans should lay soon too (if they aren't already somewhere in the woods since they fee range so much)!

I feel like poo but I might go look tomorrow in some favorite outdoor spots!

On another note one of my BFF just found out her 4 yr old son is severly allergic to cats and dogs. So I'm going to foster her three cats. Her dog she just rescued from another family and might be able to send her back to them. The dog is too ill behaved for me to want him around Rawley!!! I just love my DH who didn't do more than shake his head when I mentioned all this!!!!

I understand that there are really sic people out there so screening has to be rigorous but I do think they make animal adoptions too difficult. I had a friend refused because she didn't have a fence. Didn't matter that her husband would be home all day and was a runner so would exercise the dog...

As for people I'm torn... I don't know enough of the system but I do have friends who are foster parents and the hoops they have to jump thro are ridiculous (can't cut hair wo permission of real mom who is on a crack binge...).
