Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

FYI, the domestic situation is worked out. Thank you for your support.
I am getting 10 eggs daily out of 16. About half of the girls are in their second laying season. They were born 7/16/12 and began laying late October to mid December. The rest were born last summer in June and July. Oh, the Leghorns are from March 4Th of last year. Anyway, they are all still young.
The BBW are huge. I picked up the male, and he felt lighter than I thought, but still good. His "average" butcher date is the fifth or nineteenth of August (20-22 weeks). Her's is the twenty-second of this month (18 weeks). They still have time to put on weight. I will figure out when the best time to do the deed is, and probably up their protein to add weight. For now, they are walking fine. No leg issues.
The Bourbons ...

They are in an indoor pen with a pre-fab coop as a run. I kept wondering if they would figure out that they can get into the coop itself. Yesterday I saw one peek in, and thought as big as they are, it is too late for them to get in there. Imagine my surprise to watch four (out of five) jump out of the coop when I went to see them this morning! I am pretty sure they are roosting in the main coop, but there is one problem regardless. The nest box doesn't come with a lock, and I never put one on (it is cheap crap, and rarely used). The turkeys can easily stand up, and open the nest box. I will need to add a brick or get creative with a better run. I am out of posts (I have fencing) and don't like the other temporary ideas I have come up with. I can't wait to get the big turkey pen built!
I have two definite boys, and one questionable. I am hoping for two girls and a boy for breeding. The main goal is three girls and a boy for breeding, and one male for next year's dinner. I can handle having an extra in the freezer. Any more, and I will need to find another hen. Maybe trade for a started boy.

Thank you for the wecome

and it sounds like you will have some very fine quality meat in the freezer... not that I want a bunch of roosters from the upcoming hatches but a couple would be nice to have for winter dining...

Gossamer was up taking a bath this morning, so I didn't want to interrupt her brief moment to stretch by going inside to check on Peach. I'm having a large mug of coffee for now and will head out in another 15 minutes or so to take care of everybody and put my ear by Peach to listen for chirping.

Mc - sounds like Thanksgiving is at.your house this year. Just pm. E your address and what time to be there!

Ms t - 3 birds most certainly does = a flock! Grats on the egg!

Cheeka- that was 2 hours ago. I expect picks of chicks in a timely fashion!

It IS a lobster! Good job. It's a spiny lobster, which have no claws. It scared the

out of me because I saw it in there and thought the lobster was dead. I do not need my friend's pets dying on my watch. Luckily the lobster is fine, this was a molt. I know my friend enjoys saving its molts so I carefully removed it from the tank and arranged it artfully on the towels for preservation.

That molt is as long as my forearm from the tips of my fingers to the crook of my elbow, I found as I carried it out to the garage..wasn't sure if it would stink for a bit before it dries up.

Holy cow, that's just the shell! Cool creature.

You definitely don't want your friends pets expiring under your watch !

I agree, crayfish. if left undisturbed, they can grow to be quite large. I used to keep one in each of my freshwater tanks. would hand feed (well... clamp feed) them so they wouldn't be tempted to eat the fish. I had one grow to be almost 10" long, and when she passed at several years old, I forget how many... she was too large to flush down the toiled and was buried in the garden. the mint went crazy that year, must have loved the fresh "fish" fertilizer

nothing yet. drivin' me bonkers!!! it's so hard to stay away from the broody pen, but I'm doing my best. in the meantime, I am ready...

This is a saltwater critter. I was babysitting my friend's 2,000 gallon system (which spans 2 rooms and half of his basement) as well as his 3 cats, several lizards, tarantulas....thankfully they took the dogs with them!
