Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

subhanalah... give it to 30-32 weeks before you call late bloomin' EE's "slackers" once you start finding tinted eggs, you'll be grateful that they will lay longer in their lives than the earlier starting production breeds...

that's something I don't understand....my EE Limin began laying before her 18 week birthday. I think it has a lot to do with when they hatched, when they started maturing versus when the days were getting longer and now they are getting shorter. But they should lay well all winter, God willing? Since its their first year?

they will lay well over this Winter, yes... and my opinion is along with yours. I think the time of year they hatch may play a role. my April EE's waited til 30 weeks... but my December EE's started between 17 - 19 weeks. I wasn't expecting anything at all for at least a month or even two, and I kept finding more and more eggs... then it hit me... I only had 6 hens prior - and kept close track of who laid, and when... but I was a bit of a dolt, simply because... they're EE's. EE's are late bloomers. then I got 3 blue eggs in one day... and I hit double digits in one day. impossible with only 6 "known" layers. it was a real "doh" moment... I also like the fact that many of them... now almost 19 months, are molting. better to molt now than when the older girls do - in Fall/Winter when it's not fun to be nekked.

Today's report.... Nothing! Nada! Zip! Zero! Zilch! I need to buy some more food for them but I'm thinking about looking at them the way they look at me when I say I sure would like some eggs to eat. I even say please and they don't care.
