Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

And what would this sound like?

We are experts on that over here. It sounds like bokbokbokbokbokbokbokbgaaaah!

But without an egg.

I like how cheeka wants to point out she has soooooo many eggs she has plenty to boil and feed to the birds and probably still have 10 dozen in the fridge. Lol. No eggs here. I think my birds are on strike.

It's very similar to an alarm call. Loud BAWWWWK! quickly followed by some staccato bawk-bawk-bawks and repeated over and over. LOUDLY. Sometimes indefinitely. Sometimes before laying. Sometimes after laying. Sometimes instead of laying. Several of mine do it while madly running out of the coop. I have a stealth layer who does not call, and I have a little rooster who will wait by his hens and help the with celebratory BAWKING.

ok now i have a problem, have had chickens for a total of 15 years, never have i had a chicken sleep in the nest well last week i found not one but 4 sleeping in them, dh said he would block them off for night, but what about that early bird egg. i have taken them out and put them on the roost the last 2 nights, oh ya like that helped had more do it, i just finished cleaning this coop and now the nest full of poo, any ideas?

You can block off the boxes from late in the afternoon until after dark when they've roosted (hopefully). Unblock them at night to be ready for the morning. I have had them start sleeping in the nests when they are thinking about going broody.

i will tell dh that, he may like that, we have one that lays about 530 am so i guess 730pm is good and then when we go out at 10 to lock up every thing in yard take them down.

That's what I would do. Actually I would just get rid of the nest boxes since mine don't lay anyway.

Final egg count for the day is zero. We sat out and watched the girls for a bit and Maggie and penny were both sticking their heads in the best box and pulling out straw but no one ever goes in. Maybe they're haunted.

W4W, that's one of my fave's for the day too... and sorry mortie, I didn't even think about that while I was posting them I did boil a bunch, mostly for me, but decided it would make a good snack in the heat... I only gave out 7 total, but I do have about 4 dozen in the fridge and 4 dozen on the counter, sold 2 dozen today... so yeah... 10 dozen is about right... sorry again. but really... it's coming. August 1st.

well you and I are in the same boat. my two cream Legbar hens were lying at 10 months old when we bought them but it has been 4 weeks and no eggs! I am listening for any of those noises lol.

Chicken math is striking again!!!!! A friend messaged me wanting to know if I wanted 4 of this spring's pullets. They are culling a majority of their flock and going with one particular breed. I don't remember now what it was, but she really didn't want to process these girls, and said I could have them if I wanted them. I will be picking them up in a few weeks, when I take her incubator back to her! I have 23 eggs in it at the moment, or I'd go ahead and go up there! So.... these 4 girls are coming home with me in a few weeks!
