jchny... I am trying to do that with the old timer thread... I don't want to post til I've read all 958 pages... trouble is, they get like a hundred posts a day... I cannot seem to make much progress ...lol... but i'm enjoying it immensely! btw... it's your turn to take a crack at poetry

Roger... you are truly amazing... so amazing, that I'm sure you have your own wireless out in the coop and are reading my post as I'm typing it! Dad posted such a nice picture of you... such a pretty eye!

it hasn't started snowing here yet, but it is snowing where my BH lives... east of me...

No wonder my poor girls aren't laying.
They get sweet 12 (%) poor things were not getting any protein i feel soo bad.
She didn't realize there was a difference the bags are the same color.
My mom was hospitalized and started dialysis, haven't been home at all lately

jchny, I hope your mom has started to recover, dialysis is absolutely no fun... my ex had liver cancer and was part of a transplant program, lots of kidney patients on the floor... very difficult. I can sympathize... I spent many many 18 hour days sitting in the hospital, weeks on end when the transplant time arrived. and more weeks with the seemingly never ending bacterial infections that followed. I am definitely sending prayers your way.

now that you've solved the feed issue, you're sure to get lots of eggs shortly! I just packaged up 18 beauties to give to my mechanic for staying late to get my studded snow tires on before the snow hits. his daughter loves eggs, I picked the biggest and best of each color. it's the prettiest package yet!

Thanks so much! I already see a big difference in her skin, she was itchy, scratchy from the toxins. so many small and large red sores, had me very worried. Its been hard, they have been married 53 years, and my parents are still like high school sweethearts. Dad is so Mr. Protective, sometimes too much. Stubborn man! He is seeing her actually up and walking a little so realizes its now best to allow this to happen.
My girls PLOWED into the feed, poor babies, i also bought a pumpkin out, and a huge helping of mealies! Red, my roo, was on my lap! first time in months!! I feel so guilty

Spike (my avatar) is my "roger".. she is the devil in feathers. I swear she plots weeks in advance, laughing in that screaming peacock voice heeeeeheeeeheee! She doesn't realize mommy is planning new layers to be ordered in march....TAKE THAT SPIKE DEVIL!!!

jchny, congrats on reading through the thread! I have to admit that I went back and reread too, but only from about page 50. I was thinking Spike could join Roger and Spot and be an honorary member of the Pain in the BR Club. But then I saw in your profile pics that you have your very own, and very large, BR club! Do they all have such precocious personalities? Spot races up to me anytime I get near. If she's out in the yard and sees me checking for eggs in the coop, she zooms over and taaawwk taaawwk taaaawwwks the whole time. Quite a character. She's kind of like a little dog- very noisy and always under foot, but soooo devoted!

Sorry to hear your mom is having health problems. Hope she is feeling better. As for your accidental feeding experiment, it's amazing to see just how much protein goes into making eggs and how much the hens need it. I'll be interested to hear how long it takes for them to start laying again. Waiting for eggs...

Thanks so much, its been so hard facing reality with my mom. My dads been a basket case. He loves his geese, my 4 embden and 2 african are all here for dad. My BR is a quiet sweet girl and sadly no personality at all. same as my EE. poor girls. they were both added this summer as an afterthought, a lady traded a few with my piglet. I am still trying to get those 2 to realize i will never hurt them.

UGH Spike!! my youngest has loved her forever, sh is a total bit** but soo smart. she was the last to lay, and the biggest eggs.. no egg song, she is so sneaky. Mean little girl, even my roo wont cross her. And sneaky hateful!!! always the last to go in for the nite.. Oh my, i get so angry!! but then she wants to be picked up and held,, baby peeps and i am so spoofed, what a charmer. Spike is my Roger without a doubt... but i love her so much.

Hi Johnny! Don't worry about reading everything before posting, we don't mind repeating ourselves, I do that several times a day! Besides, no two situations are exactly the same. I have found knitting a great little pastime for hospital duty....you can occupy yourself, yet still have a conversation, its a great icebreaker with staff, and you can knit a shawl or lap blanket for mom while she is chilled just sitting there in the ice cube treatment room.. if you don't knit, learn (I recommend the German or continental method-faster) it is so so easy, and great for stress....which, statiscally speaking, being a caregiver is much more stressful than being a patient, did you know that? Dialysis will tune mom up quickly! By the way, Roger looks like he is just waiting for you to trip and fall so she can eat you. Roger definetly wears the pants in the coop.

PS. When I want to tame somebody handfeeding is great, at first its just snatch and run, but before long they will recognise you for what you are...food. right roger? Some of my pullets are very flighty and remain so, but not afraid of me now.
