Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Yeah well around here when dusk arrives it just means a couple of bad birds go up a tree.
You should try clipping one wing. That is on my clucking list for the pullets. I did it to Si and Penny when Si fly over the fence. I freaked!! The pullets fly over to me when they know that I have treats. My DH laughs... its a cute sight.

They won't go in the pen without a bribe, unless it's dusk or it's starting to rain. They will all come running in for scrambled eggs.  Other things, my stubborn EE may or may not come in for - she's either really stupid or really smart, I haven't figured it out.

The thing is, I can only stand to be out there for may one hour at a time because of the mosquitoes.  So, yeah, they usually aren't ready to come back.
mine will come running when I call cause I bribe with good stuff sunflower seeds watermelon peas leftovers...

I have to wait til dusk but I don't mind most nights. Not sure if they would fall for treats in the pen. Once I get the permanent pen built I'm only going to give treats there. Now it's too small so treats get thrown around the yard.

Well all the big girls finally made it to the big cop so tonight I carried the babies to the little coop to keep them from sleeping in the nests.

got 13 eggs, am still waiting for 12 girls to lay they were due fri, so checking real close, gave them a pie today it only took them 5 mins to clean the pan off
i also have a group to lay next mth so we will see just how many we get by sept. we have 46 and 2 maybe roos have to wait and see, that group is only 12 wks old we just put them out there when we opened the new coop.

There are days I'm totally in the dark on keeping chickens and ducks! I have no idea about incubating..... If,and it's a big if, I decide to hatch in a incubator it is several years down the road. I might let my silkies hatch if they go broody but incubators is way above my pay grade.
