I'll have to take a pic of my blue Ameracauna for you scrambles and tempt you some more!!
Hey Mortie did you say your AM is not laying? How old is yours? Mine is 18 weeks.
My Ameracaunas are 20 weeks and 4 days old. They are getting pinker by that day. I expect eggs in 3-4 weeks.
wow! tons of reading to catch up on and I've got to go back a few pages still! but it's late, I'm tired and should head off for the night... I do not have to be to work until NOON tomorrow - I have to train a new carrier and she can't get to our office until about quarter of one. we won't make the outgoing 4 PM truck tho', so it will be a difficult training for her. we'll have to stop delivering at a certain time, depending on where we are on the route... continue driving the route looking for raised flags, collect any outgoing mail and get it back to the office by 4, then retrace back to where we stopped delivering and finish the route. it will make it confusing for her a bit, but I wrote a route book ages ago - updated it for the last new hire that just got fired because of the accident - I think I posted about it... really not a good outcome for a nice girl who didn't deserve to lose her job. anyway, my day will be flipped around and chicken time will be in the morning instead. hopefully, my schedule will chill out a bit and I can get my byc time back!!!!!! I've been slacking over at my google community for chicken keepers as well...
so I took a risk this afternoon. I let the flock out after work, knowing I had a doctor's appt in the late afternoon and that it would be next to impossible even with Pie to round them all back up in time. I thought about it all morning and decided that, while it's always a risk, the bright clear sky might keep the foxes and coyotes in their dens. on my way home, sans camera... because the battery was charging... I see a fox in a corn field. that fox just stood there, let me back up, fumble for my phone, and take a pic before starting to run. I only got one clear shot, but it's a bit distant and it's on my phone which doesn't work well at the house... or I would share it. I then realized what a dummy I was being! if that fox is out, the fox that lives just down my backyard is probably out too! so I kinda sped home. all accounted for and just fine. so I got to collecting eggs. 10 today. and one of them is this one:
now, mind you... when I collected the eggs, I did not bring one of my many fabulous baskets... and had to use my t-shirt. so when I was photographing this egg... one hand holding the egg, the other hand holding the camera... there was only one alternative for keeping the rest of the eggs safe. I held the t-shirt up with my teeth. so who comes looking for attention?
my little goober boy.![]()
