Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm here by myself today. It is a little strange. Since we have not gotten the van back from the shop I let the kids go spend the night with their aunt and Grammy so that they could go eat Thanksgiving with Hubby's grandma and family. Hubby is at work and I am trying to get the house straightened up. Unfortunately we have not had water since lunchtime yesterday. Hubby thinks that the pump is burned up so he has to pull it out of the well. When it rains it pours! The van already put us in a bind with Christmas and now we are probably going to have to get a new pump too..... shew it's not fun around here at the moment.

The hawk came back. I've been letting them free range for a few days... And the darn hawk actually flew into the shed where Phyllis was hiding. Thankfully she was fine. All are accounted for except one silkie. Ugh I hope she comes back.

Anyway we went to Dicks and got fake crows from the hunting dept. we'll try to tempt some real crows back. Had some earlier in the year and they chased off the hawks. Regardless the perm run will be finished in a week. Not too bad.

I had a fun moment during work today. spotted a pheasant hen in the snowy brush, called her out and got some great photos. she reminded me of my own hens - her look seems to question whether or not I have something for her to eat.

no one really came out tho'. lingered in the doorways, a few stepped over the threshold. Royce was the only one to venture far. he went to the Dome to eat some breakfast.

Gossamer laid an egg this morning. I spotted it and figured I'd get my chores done first, then collect it.

she used her beak like a can opener on the back of my hand. poor sweet dum-dum, can't hatch eggs now silly girl.

16F and the waterer is partially frozen. The heat lamp works pretty good. 1 egg so far.

We had a little bit of rain this weekend. Chickens still got to get out, so they were happy, but not happy enough to lay any eggs.

Well, one egg. Got to give them credit for the one egg. Dark-thirty is getting earlier. How long til spring?

I've been doing pretty good with eggs. Have been getting as many as 5 in one day. 3 today.

My silkie didn't come back. Don't know if it was squirt or nugget. If it's squirt I'll be very sad. Tho if it is squirt there is a slim chance she's nesting somewhere. But most likely gone. I'll have to take a look at some video cause the only way I could tell them apart was by their feet and that when broody squirt was nice, nugget not so much.

I am going to share something. It is a taboo subject, but very helpful info!
Scoopable cat litter works, and the big buckets (also good for nest boxes) are the right hight for a woman or child. Get what I am getting at? Leave the lid open until you scoop it. Once scooped, it can be stored until next time. Good for vacations, the barn, potty training, and whenever you need an extra toilet.
