Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I know I shouldn't have adjusted it before i had to leave but I didn't think it would go nuts. I know what I did wrong I just mentioned it so we're all on the same page as to how my hatch is going.

After talking to the person I was hatching for and giving it some thoughts, I decided to try another batch next week. I went to try to readjust the bator and found that it really has gone haywire. I am unable to get it to stop heating. The light doesn't come on, which indicates that it is heating, but the temp just goes up and up and up in spite of me turning it down.

This makes me feel better, it appears that I didn't kill the babies but the incubator went nuts. However it also doesn't make me feel better because this was a borrowed incubator and hubby won't let my buy one to hatch chicks so I guess I am done.

Oh man mortie, that's terrible about your chicks. So sorry.

I have heard other people say that a malfunctioning incubator can be fixed by putting in a new wafer for the thermostat. That's about the extent of my knowledge, but if you can fix it, it will get you around the No New Incubator decree.

We will have to see. I don't know if I will ever trust it. I have been tinkering with it for a few hours and so far it just heats up like crazy no matter what I do. My poor little babies.

we got a couple of inches of snow over the course of the day. very annoying.

no field trip again. I feel bad for Mama, she looks so gorgeous after her bath, I know she wants another... if Winter doesn't end within the next week, I will get a bag of dirt, fill the kiddy pool and bring it inside. the heck with the mess!

My goodness, that picture of the horse is fantastic. You could take your best pics and publish a calendar- make you a fortune! I'd love to have that horse on the wall mugging at me for a month!

The green color of the beaks on a couple of the chicks are really cool. Never seen such bright green. Are those Silkie mixes? You think the green will stay into adulthood? You could market this new novelty GreenBeak breed and make another fortune!

Dh and I took the incubator apart. The "brain" is totally dead and the thermostat is stuck on. Makes me feel better...but not.

Hubby said "At least this didn't happen last year." I glared at him and said "THERE IS NO SILVER LINING." *sigh*.

I'm either going to borrow another incubator, maybe try to fix this one but I'm not sure about that because now I'm scared of it killing my babies again, or I might stop discouraging Midge...I don't know.

cheeka's pictures are...unbelieveable. She can take anything and make it into art. Amazing.

I've had a brilliant idea re my incubator problem. I can take virtually anything and make it into an incubator using my highly technical, expensive, and sophisticated aquarium controller. All I need is another temperature probe and I can have a high degree of control and continuous monitoring with alarms.

I don't know why I didn't think of that before.

I thought of it mortie! I was asking my hubs if the thermostat thingy was called a wafer (so I didn't sound like a doof when I suggested it) and he wanted to go and do a bunch of research to see exactly what was needed. I said no, don't bother, mortie is an aquarium wizard and will know all about this stuff, I'm sure. There are tons of ideas for custom made incubators. Ha! You could use an old television console and make chicken TV a reality!
