Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Oh Min, I hate those red mites. Be very vigilant about checking for the next couple of months, especially at night with a flashlight. I found it very hard to get rid of them. Ultimately I had to get a flea spray meant for pet beds and spray the inside of the coop (not the chickens). In fact, now that the weather us warming up, I'm going to spray again. The mites come in on wild birds.

something with spinosad sprayed in the coop. It listed as being non toxic to chickens but will kill bugs. It persists for a long time when not in the sun so it would be perfect for coop nooks and crannies.

Something like this:

Guess what I got?

Thanks ron for the product recommendation. Ming I hope you can get them eradicated. I have to check my girls again. But they've been free ranging for 4 days now and getting some awesome dust baths which makes me happy.

They are pretty cute. I debated canceling the order but didn't obviously and now I'm glad. I have two broodies so am debating if I give them to a momma. They just went broody tho a couple of days ago. One is a first timer and is MEAN. The other is squirt. I might give them to her in a couple of days. I love a Silkie mom!!!!

Oh and Cheeka a big shoutout to the USPS. Normally I get the 5am phone call to pick them up at the PO. But nothing this morning.i tracked the shipment and saw that they went to a different place before hitting my local PO. I got annoyed as I knew that would delay them. BUT I'm sitting at home working when the doorbell rings. The PO actually delivered them. And it wasn't a regular carrier. It was awesome!!! They got "special delivery"!!

They are gorgeous CLindz, and I love the eggs!

I'm getting three eggs a day from the girls, a extra large white from Zazzles, a medium blue green from Selma and a tiny white from Peggy. They all seem fine and I rechecked their vents and saw nothing and all the eggs were clean. :) I checked the perches during the day and redusted and check them again at night and they were fine. Here's hopeing I'm in the clear! :)

w4w what is the name of the flea spray you use

Clindz - nice to see you! Wow, look at all your eggs!

Ming - good luck with your mite problem. When you're done, you wanna come over and check my coop for mites? I don't think we have any but...I guess who knows?

Everyone else -

I've been behind again.

Last friday I worked out my incubator problem and got a new set of babies in there. I set 18 in my bator and gave 6 to a friend with a broody. Her broody is sitting nicely and my bator is working okay. As I think I mentioned, the thermostat is stuck on, so rather than buy a new thermostat for it, I hooked it up to a ranco temperature controller (which is what a lot of people use to control their aquarium heaters but is not my $$$$$$ controller that I can monitor and adjust from anywhere on my phone or a computer). It's doing okay. The fan in the bator is on the same plug as the heater so it kicks on and off with the heater but I wired a computer fan to a 12v adapter and am running that seperately. The advantage to that I guess is if I want to turn it off at lockdown to avoid overdrying the membranes I can do that. I've heard it suggested that you turn a fan off at lockdown for that reason but most people can't. I haven't decided what I am going to do as far as leaving it on or turning it off.

My phone reminded me this morning that today was supposed to be hatch day for my first round of babies. I had entered it into my calender and when they died I deleted it but only got the actual text, so it still popped up as having "something" going on today even if it didn't know what. Still a little sad about that whole thing.

I wish our grass would hurry up and grow. The whole chicken poop thing is getting out of control over here, the grass really helps with that. Otherwise it's just a poopy mud pit.

Bees supposed to arrive tomorrow. Haven't heard from the supplier. Why can't anything be simple???

Quote: I used spray with pyrethrin or permethrin (artificial pyrethrin) as the active ingredient, made for dogs and cats or their bedding. I did NOT spray the birds. Only sprayed nooks and crannies in the coop where the mites were hiding, especially where the roosts are attached. The birds were blocked from the coop until spray was completely dry (a few hours on a warm day). I'm kind of paranoid about chemicals and medications, but I tried all the "safer" products with no luck.
