Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Thanks NMBear! I'm kinda scared, but its going to be okay... and I will have a flock again soon, or by Spring anyway. I should wait, see what kind of winter we have up here... summer gets hot. we've had a few days at 100 F, but it's dry heat, and not bad in the shade... even better inside with the a/c... so I will have to have heat hardy birds for sure. easier to keep them warm in the winter.
my Dad and I have named the new house Weed Haven. I've been pulling weeds non stop it seems... gardener will come while I'm away and at least fix up the front yard. the back doesn't matter as much, no one can see it but us, and I can maintain it... just need about 20 bags of bark mulch!

Oh wonderful! We took the plunge and bought our acreage in December and as terrifying as it was it was a great move for us. I hope you have even more success at your new home, weeds n all! (They make excellent snacks for the birdies lol) I've only been a chickener since April 4th so I'm a noobie for sure but what a calming joy these little birds are!

that's what I miss the most, the serenity of "Chicken TV"! just hanging with the flock, sharing treats... they are very personable creatures if you take the time to get close to them...
I used to have 5+ acres at the old house. I have a nice yard here, but it's only a third of an acre... but there is a nice chicken yard with a baby barn out back... but most of the land is taken up by the house. funny, it looks small from the outside, but once in the door, it keeps going and going... kind of like Popeye's teepee...

Small yard. How do you prevent loss to rattle snakes?

That sounds just wonderful, I hope you're all settled soon so you can watch some more chicken tv!

Thier bottoms are fluffy,
Thier combs getting red,
They're singing a song,
Makes me sure they're not dead,
I've made them some boxes,
Where they like to sit,
They're happy and healthy and g'damit,
I haven't bought eggs in more than two weeks
And breakfast is lacking to say in the least!
So please my pretty ones,
I would be so happy if you'd only give,
Enough for an omelette or even a toast,
I will keep being the chicken mama you love the most!

got a card from one of my old postal customers today, wishing me a speedy recovery and saying it's just not the same without me there... I'll have to write back, give out my new address so I can stay in touch with a bunch of my faves... some of those folks became like family. I really miss them.
everyone will be back by lunchtime tomorrow, we can spend some time together before my bro has to drive me to Denver for the flight out on Sunday. I'm really glad my Mom is coming, she is too, although it's likely to be boring for her... but she has a few books, as do I. I'll be gone a week, will have my phone, so I can check in from time to time. praying they figure out what the heck is going on. I won't step on a scale, or look too closely in mirrors... but I know I've lost more weight. might be as low as 94-95 lbs by the way my clothes hang... but I eat massively so it doesn't make sense.

Good luck, my friend.

I'll be praying for you.
