We were totally pooped when we got home... She still hasn't had her official party w her friends, I'll get to that in a min...but we brought cupcakes for snack at school on Thursday,

Friday, she has enrichment classes. So we planned a prank - edible school supplies!
1020171513.jpg

Vanilla yogurt "glue" and midgie tootsie roll crayons. Her teachers really played it up bc she was close to chickening out... It was brilliant and we are now cooking up a plan for a school wide April Fools day prank!
Friday was her actual birthday, and she had 1 friend for a sleep over - all I can handle - Oma can't walk. 5 weeks ago, we had rain for about 3 weeks, and she was really bothered in her hip. Figured it would ease up when it stopped raining. 3 weeks ago tho, came a point where she could no longer get around without incredible pain. She's had xrays, CT scan of her hip, yeah...degeneration present, but an ortho said he thinks it's her back. MRI of the back shows stenosis, but again, doesn't seem to be the cause for why she has inner hip pain and now she has to have an MRI of her hip to see if she has torn cartilage or???

Moustachios and Eyebrowsios!!!
Last night, we had our dinner with my folks and a family that my folks have been eager for us to meet. My dad has some horrid virus and decided he should rest...poor guy! I was texting photos throughout...

I didn't get a chance to get one w her husband...but such a lovely family - She knows most of Mylee's school teachers. Mylee will be their future babysitter

So we will have a party w kids after Halloween. She's totally fine w spreading out the fun over several weeks! :lau

What a wonderful time you are having. Love the edible crayons and glue!
Sorry about Oma's pain. My brother had luck with glucosamine/chondroitin supplements. Took well over a month, but pains in feet, ankles and knees are gone.

Is the trip to Italy still in the works?

Here are a few scenes from when we evacuated from the fire.
Poor chickens. They got pulled off the roost at 2:30am and tossed in the back of the truck and driven over to my sister's house. They were a little confused when the sun came up, but were happy to go into the backyard. When I realized this wasn't just going to be a one day thing, I got a bale of shavings for the truck bed, and put a couple of 2x4s across for them to roost at night, parked on a residential street. God thing I don't have a rooster. We were there for 8 days. 13 hens.

Here's a big one. I finally got my phone to post more than one pic!

Fourth day at sis's house, I was innocently sitting in the grey chair, trying to catch up on byc, and Ming leaps off the back of the chair to the upper window. Crazy cat!

Didn't have any time to pack toys for Scooter, so he got a new mustacheio squeaky toy. He loves it!

See? Spike really is a hen! They chose a corner to lay eggs until hubs got a couple cardboard boxes and made them 2 nests.

Some still liked the corner. Spike's egg is the biggest.

This is the hill behind my neighborhood burning. 3rd day of evacuation. I did not expect to have a house after seeing that. The entire face of the peak burned, but they saved our neighborhood! For the second time!!! :bow The sky was solid smoke, no blue to be seen anywhere... cough cough

Hubs and I did a little exploring the morning of the evacuation, after everyone was safely at sister's. We drove up to see if the farm was okay (it was). We chose the wrong road to try to return to sis's. Backed up, turned around and got out of there fast! That thick upright pillar of embers was a large coast live oak tree. Just that little bit of stump and some fencing was left. We went back a week later, and even the stump was gone.

Summer hills around here are usually brown with green trees. Now they are black with brown trees. :( First 2 are views from my patio. Earlier this summer, the gap between us and the neighbor had that huge dead standing pine. More relieved than ever that they had it cut down.

Next two are right behind the edge of the neighborhood. This was the second time firefighters set backfires to keep the worst of the flames away from the neighborhood houses which have their backyards right on the other side of the power poles. Too close for comfort. I am finding black charred leaves all over the property.

Last pic is a view of the hills closer to where my sister lives. The fires were very widespread. Our place and dad's farm are in the valley on the other side of those hills. We were really at the mercy of the winds. You can see several homes still standing in the burned area. The firefighters were amazing. We saw so many trucks, and most of them were from far away towns and even out of state. We feel so lucky that my whole family and 5 separate homes did not suffer any damage. I will have to get some more pics on a sunny day now that the smoke has cleared.

Thanks for the pictures!

One thing is that the burnt places will be very green in the spring.
