Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

This is bug, from the same clutch
Awww.. they're still cute even in that awkward almost-feathered phase. Pickles still has a lot of white. I was wondering if she was maybe going to lose it or get more. They can change so much after the first molt too. Is Bug a boy? (Comb looks big-ish, but do roos usually get that mottled feather color?) And horses too?!! When I was a kid, the chickens' favorite pastime was scratching through the horse poo. Manure party!!!

I do think Bug is a little roo. He picks bicker fights with the other roos. He also started out with dark brown. So who know what they will like when they mature!!

And yes we have a whole darn zoo! I'm seriously considering shovel manure into the chicken pen since they are free range. Lol

So let us recap. I was hoping a JG was going broody, but it was a false alarm. A couple wanted 20 (free) eggs for hatching. I got them together that day, and it was no longer an urgent thing. Maybe they would get them last weekend. Then I had to meet them on Monday or Tuesday. At the last minute, it was today. At the LAST minute, something came up. Not today either. My husband is home two days a week. That is 30-50 hours/week. We had no plans thanks to this woman!! We kept changing them to accommodate her.
Then I decided I would like to try hatching some of my own eggs. Neighbor said she would do it. I think it was W4W that asked if that was a good idea. Ha! NO!!! She came for them today, asked for 2 dozen to hatch for herself (FREE) and wanted me to pay RENT to use her incubator. She even tried telling me I HAD to let her hatch my eggs for me!

MC you need a sign "no free rides" Its sad how thoughtless some can act these days! Hope you shut the door in her face, might of had to punch her lights out grrrrr...

doncha just cringe over those people who want what we've got for free...??? incubators aren't too expensive MC, some are... but if you can go a step above the styrofoam model, Craigs List can be sketchy... but I see listings frequently, then, you can hatch your own... or just wait til Spring, you'll get a broody, someone will want to sit... only takes one

Eggs for me today, 3 were poopy, in the store bought coop, but it seemed to be from dirty feet, and 2 were nice and clean in the apple coop. and one from Peach. all collected in the dark. it was 5:45 by the time I got home, not pitch dark, but dark enough... had to tip toe into the dining room and try not to wake everyone, but make sure all was well, and found Peach in her nest rather than the roost. She perped a bit, but seemed to be pretty heavily sleeping.

I cancelled a second route for tomorrow. not that I couldn't use the money... it's a big route, and I really do like it... it's fairly easy despite the fact that it is over 100 miles. the scenery there is spectacular, so it's very enjoyable... but I have to get home early tomorrow. it's supposed to be near 40, somewhat crappy, rainy.... but the gang won't care, and we need to spend time outside together. it's been months really since we've had serious quality time... I've managed to squeeze in as much as possible, and they aren't interested in snow... so it's been all right... now the snow is gone, it won't last but a day or two, we're supposed to get more over the weekend.
I've got to grab the opportunity for myself. I'm scheduled to work in another town on Friday, on the smaller of the 2 routes, and the PM called me today to ask if I wouldn't mind doing the bigger route instead. I said yes. so... it's not such a cut to the paycheck after all... I'll get a few of those hours I gave up, back....

my granddaughter, Myleah, has discovered real music! she's 3, loves to dance and sing, especially to Disney movies and such. she has finally noticed the radio. she is fascinated by the variety, so her other grandmother got her a radio of her very own. now Mylee calls me with the radio blasting asking me if I want to dance with her! I will see her in April, I cannot wait! I have Directv, which comes with satellite radio, I have some 80+ music stations, my favorite is Coffehouse Rock, listen to it everyday. We'll dance, and play and she'll meet the chickens. She LOVES eggs. she wants them everyday for breakfast... it will be so cool for her to learn where they come from, and pick them from the nest herself and pick which eggs she wants to eat. I'll probably still have to work while they are here, but I can insist on only doing my route and being home early in the afternoon everyday.

I've lost count til April 1st... have to get the calendar out again. 60 something days... it's not for any reason... just a good date to start putting away the winter gear and believing that the weather will get nice soon... plus it's the chicks official 5 month hatchday celebration... and when the waiting for new egg layers really begins in earnest!

SBM (showbarnmom) they are adorable! I've got to get updated pics of mine. i have been so bad, no pics for a couple of weeks really... they are getting big, and beautiful... I'll get some shots tomorrow - outdoors if weather permits - it would be their first venture to the great outdoors!
