Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

yeah I kind of figured you were planning olive eggers lol....I have been 'visiting' (much nicer word than stalking) farm sites finding where I want eggs from.

I don't know what my eventual plans will be ....I like too many breeds...and hatching is something I really shouldn't go crazy for because we can't keep roosters here by law. Soooooooooooooooooo I have a friend willing to take one or two...but past that I would have to find them homes. Now my father would love for me to go hatch crazy ...only because he really likes chicken. I almost named my girls after various Chinese food dishes because of this. Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken Mei Fun, Chicken Chop Suey...

My list of breeds I like is growing, some for their egg color, some for their 'cute' factor. I wasn't really wanting bantams but now I think they would make a nice addition to my garden and bantam just because I could have more? lol

I've gotten the bantam bug too. We started with the 2 tiny Seramas, and if I have to build a special coop for them, I might as well make room for a few more itsy-bitsies. So far I like porcelain d' Anvers and Cochins, although I'm not sure if the Cochins would be too big to be around the Seramas. I would hatch if I could find someone to keep (or eat) the roosters. I'm not sure I could sell them to just anyone, but don't have room here for the crowing.

What bantam breeds are you considering?

Mille Fleur is one of my favorites and belgian duucle , I just spent the past half hour drooling over someones little polish bantams..OMG they crack me up...my husband thinks the polish and silkies look like dogs. I Like the faverolles maybe a brahma...i liked a hamburg I saw...someone said it wasn't a bantam but that they are just small birds...so cute ...Basically I am thinking of building two or three stand alone "apartment" size coops for bantams to live in my veggie garden which is a fenced off section of my yard that seems to grow every mothers day when my husband 'gifts' me something for my garden. It has turned into one of my favorite places. I really don't want to let the big girls in there because I know they will destroy...a few have followed me in to play in the mulch but mostly they just watch me from the fence. I grow sunflowers in there and plan to give those to them, I also overwinter some things that the current girls got to eat all winter. Carrots, spinach etc...So three apartments with two or three bantams in each....9...but really thats only like 3 large girls...right? lol

I have to quit looking, i keep saying "no more" and then run across that "deal" I cant pass on. There's so many interesting breeds. It like eating that perfect steak, and then seeing a plate of crab legs going by when you are halfway done

I really must stop hanging around with you all. "Chicken Apartments" ? You people need help. Keep up the irresponsible behavior and some day you will end up with a Roger and you will regret it...........lets see my due date on the broodys eggs is just over a week away. Better get busy. Thanks!!!!

This is a Cuckoo Marans. They are like darker BRs. The males are the same color as BRs.

How long between a pulleys first and second egg, generally?
That can depend , from my experience (limited) they can lay every single day after the first or they can wait weeks and make you beg them to lay a second. I think it varies on breed. I have my BR who laid her first egg an hasn't missed a day since. I have my andalusian whom I sometimes want to call useless. All my girls are pullets and each one has been different basically. I have a few who give me an egg every day right off the bat, some that skipped an egg.

Today I got 8 including a white one!!

All in the box !!

I have to say they are falling in line very well...which makes me want to build townhomes rather than apartments.
