Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

MC, as crazy as it sounds, I wish I was in your position! I need more birds! so many people are in line to take my hatches... I almost should get an incubator... i won't, but still... it's getting ridiculous! I am now actually concerned that folks will try to talk me into giving away my grown birds! it's funny... old BH was always trying to talk me into giving up some birds which I would never do... and my birds are nothing "special", except to me of course... and I guess to lots of folks around here too! Pebble has a home, he will go with the newest hatch due in about 5 days.

I wish you were closer. I thought about coming to see you with a motorcycle full of chicks. If you knew how well I packed a motorcycle you would be afraid.

MC i hear ya, its not really been much more work, just more feed. If they didnt free range I couldn't afford it. Winter we will clear out all but the best roosters, put the rest in the freezer.
Cheeka, EE are super popular here. My Bunny is kicking out 100% fertile eggs, so I sell out of EE every week! Wish I had more adult girls. I am looking hard at getting some splash Amerucanas. Want a different color chicken, and I can do olive eggers too :D
Sally huge egg! I have yet to see one here but I am hatching most everything. What kind of babies are you getting?

I've got three faverolles on order waiting for me. 2white 1salmon.
I also got my son a buff silkie pullet :) hehehehe invasion of the chicken aliens ...my son calls them that because his father thinks. They look like poodles.

I am so excited, I also debated getting hatching eggs, but since I will be out of town for a wedding, I really shouldn't. I looked at my calendar today and noticed I've got plans every weekend until mid July. My husband and I just don't know how to say no apparently. Three weddings, an engagement party, my daughters christening, a weekend getaway vacation during Father's Day. It's going to be nutty. My husband wants to work on the wip (work in progress coop) but its not going to happen. Sunday I plan to introduce the adopted hens to my girls...woohoo.

Okay seven am start tomorrow to get to the show in jersey. Best wishes to all :)

The Golden Buff isn't staying serious about sitting. Not a surprise. I was talking to my DH at 2 thismorning (Just couldn't sleep!) and figured out the extra egg problem. I did mark the eggs on Wednesday night. I checked while she was off the nest thismorning, and tossed the extra six. One (upon being crushed) did have an obvious embryo. Kinda sad.
How are everyone's numbers? Sounds like a lot of molting going on!

Egg count - 1! Woohoo! Doesn't matter I have 3 hens that are good layers, albeit they are new here, and 1 pullet who's been laying, then got sick, and 1 pullet who's well past due to lay her first egg. *sigh*

Cheeka I was debating hatching eggs but I am afraid I won't be able to rehome all the chicks, if I have that problem, want some? I could drive them up to you. Right now I'm itching for fertile eggs but that worry of having too many chicks is what stops me. I am picking up new babies at the fair this weekend rather than hatching them myself because of this.

Okay so here is the insides of monster egg...
I would meet you halfway at the very least! if you become overrun... let me know.
Quote: I'm going to write a letter as well. this is interesting, I've heard nothing about changes. we did get an express with live birds the other day, it was already one day late and the family just went on hold for 30 days! as they might be going on vacation... and order live birds? we did eventually get a hold of someone, but i opened the box to give them water and there were 3 little bird cage birds. no idea the variety, all male, bright blue breasts, grey backs. took a risk of getting in trouble by opening the box... but the customer was happy... and my PM is on vacation. we'll see if I get my wrist slapped when she gets back...
Quote: I say Road Trip! come up anyway... camp out for the weekend, we'll have great food and a great time! Mylee's coming back in one week, staying for a month... it'd be a blast to have cluck cluck friends visiting!

Really late/early getting on here and very sad. My oldest DD spotted a fox twice by my goose pen. No missing geese, But my muscovy drake stanley has puncture marks on the neck. He is inside my den in a crate, recovering. This all happened in broad daylight, within about a 20 minute span. That fox will not see many more days. Now I know where my missing muscovy hen went.

I am also missing an australorp hen, they don't ever free range unless I am right there by their coop. I am just Beside myself with anger, but I know bottom line there will be no more freedom for my babies til this fox is gone. This is the first one I have seen here in 10 years, and u bet, the last for a long time. Both neighbors I talk to have lost all their ducks too, That's going to change. fast.
Anther event today, DH was mowing, and I was getting downed limbs from this storm we had. I started over to the barn, and froze...COW! a lil bull, about 500 pounds!!! OMG, i froze. I slowly went to the shed got sweet feed and apple treats.. He was terrified, and no tags, just an oval sticker (auction)..I almost got him, like 10 feet and he bolts, some guy on a 4 wheeler and the cops show up and he spooked. We corralled him, but he blew the fence and ran! So, he is still loose as of 2 am. I keep looking, poor thing! The guys wife said to F'ing keep him, they were both so upset..
Ya know, auctions are pretty scary for the animals, and many stress and die. You have to be slow and gentle, UGH

But I kept my mouth shut. I hate auctions, the poor critters.
Going rate bottom line 1.30 a pound on beef, so that guy just lost well over 600$ by not planning ahead. OK I am done ranting, dunno how many eggs didn't get to collect the evening round.
