Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

wow JCH, that really stinks. I hate fox when it comes to chickens and ducks and geese...I know they have to eat... but c'mon! use those talents to go catch a wild rabbit...

15 eggs today and Peach rejected one of her eggs, down to 3

My big broody BO who is a great mother. She would take in little Roger if she had a chance. For now Mrs.Evil still has control over little Roger and little Roger loves to ride on her back. Couldn't get a picture of that but will keep trying. Two weeks old now

Hey guys, how many eggs would you let a broody sit on? I mean full size hen? What about a bantam? It came up yesterday during conversation and I was wondering what you guys would say for your Broodys. We joked about this bantam silkie trying to cover three BO chicks that where a couple weeks old. She just couldn't fit them under her but she wouldn't give up on her babies lol.
After taking W4W's advice I gave big broody 14 eggs. Then Roger went broody and I gave her four or five of big broodys eggs. I made a lot of mistakes or the hatch numbers would have been much higher. Many of the unhatched eggs had chicks in them. Only a few were rotton and not developed. Big broody and I will do much better next time. Looking forward to it. So to answer your question I gave big broody 14

I notice you are not giving Roger more eggs! Ha ha!
I candled the incubator eggs. 2 definite blood rings and veining in one egg. I saw blood rings in others, but not as pronounced. I am hopeful.

The majority are chocolate eggs, so I am hopeful for those too.

I am gonna be so ticked if I get only one chick, and it is mine. I was worried what I would do with one chick. Duh! Give it to the broody with her chicks!
If next week doesn't look better, I will give the one with veining to Baby. She can hatch it with her's. Only problem is that the incubator is a day or two ahead of her. Not a big deal. I may give her anything else that came from my coops, and looks promising. There are only four eggs.
Buffy isn't back into broody mode. False alarm. Midnight seemed to be better. Then I bathed her again, and brought her back outside to her own little coop. I had one of her legs forward. I think I re-injured her. Tonight she looked like she was trying to move again. If it were anything but a hurt leg, she would be dead by now. So, that is what I an sticking with. BTW, it was last Friday (the 10th) that she slept on the floor, and was acting funny the next day. I can only guess the greenish poo was from an empty crop.
13 eggs today. Only one from under Baby since yesterday morning.

She doesn't get mad at me for lifting her up, but if I go near her, she does make a noise.

Baby chick pics from out here :)

My other Cuckoo Marans is playing Nanny to the babies. Mama doesn't seem to mind, I guess with 7 kids, a little help is appreciated :) The nanny hasn't laid in about 10 days but she is inconsistant on the nest. Driving me nuts.

Here they are:

kian, very nice pictures! absolutely adorable bunch! I have great hope that the last 3 eggs under Peach will hatch sometime tomorrow or Thursday. it's so hot and humid up here today, i let the gang out for a while, but it's just too much for me... so i lured them back in with some nice frozen fruit. too easy...

only 8 eggs yesterday, but I didn't go out in the evening to see if I had any late layers... I have 12 as of now for today... some may have been last night... who knows... and I should get a few more this afternoon. thunder is rumbling, if it would rain, things might cool off a bit. it's 80* but the dew point is 66, oppressive.
