Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Oh, poor Mylee.

Why does it seem your toe has so many extra nerve endings in it? A rainy day of movie watching is a good way to recover.

Cheeka, your handyman sounds worth his weight in gold. You ought to take him with you when you move!

Hub's and I are adopting "stupid o'clock." We had a good chuckle over that one. Staying up late happens far too often around here. He leaves tomorrow morning on his trip. Weekend went by too fast.

OK, RK Broody is looking much better in the feather department. The chicks are huge, and what a great treat to give them some leaves and bugs. If your dad is stubborn and independent, then he's just like mine. Can't even blame it on age, he's always been like that, very self-sufficient. Doesn't like to hire outside help for even big jobs, like re-roofing the barn or painting the tank house, and when he does, he's rarely satisfied.

My dad's leg was much better today. It bends now, and he's getting around without a walker. Went up to see him and borrow his extra computer, a tiny little travel laptop, so I can keep up here. YAY.

Hope everyone has a great week. Got 5 eggs today

but am hoping for another when I go lock up.

Happy chickens to all!

We had a great weekend here.... I moved the chicks and mama Clarabelle into the smaller coop so I could take down the gate I was using to separate them from the others, and so the others have access to the nesting boxes, since they are nearing that age.... (I know it will probably be another month or more, but hey, we can hope! ) We also had a MAJOR milestone with Rogue, our young cockerel that is so flighty! I took some hamburger buns down yesterday, and he decided that he wanted some of what the girls were getting and came and got some out of my hand! I was amazed, because I have never been able to get within 5 feet of him! Hubby worked on his building all weekend, and I had to do some minor fixes on the little coop before I could move Clarabelle and the chicks. We plan to do some rearranging and re-do the small coop later after Hubby finishes his building! Anyway, here are some pictures from this weekend!

Rogue: Australorpe cockerel about 13 weeks old

Golden comet girls 17 weeks and Rogue

Blue Laced Red Wyandotte hens 3 years and Rogue.

Hubby and son working on building!

Chicks are 2 weeks old! buff cochin and FBC Marans.

Nice pics lindz! my 2 little d'Uccle boys won't eat from my hand, but they will eat from a big spoon extended from my hand, so that's gotta count for something... Congrats on making strides with your boy. it's important to interact with roosters...other than with the boot... I love mine.

Awesome.......those Golden Comets remind me of when mine were that age. They are egg laying machines. Mine are close to two years now but still very dependable layers

BEBE CHIKUNS!!!!

For sure one, boys said that they heard some tap tap tapping while they were putting everyone up....so maybe we'll have another by tomorrow morning. Boys said baby is light tannish yellow with a black stripe. I have to take their word for it, still in the stupid cast until Friday and hubby won't let me near the coop with it on. But i can sneak down with a bag on my foot tomorrow after the kids go to school and see if I can get a peek! yay! Oh, and Roly Poly is a big faker.

I was curious so I went back to find out. First squatt was at 19 weeks followed by first egg 5 days later. So around 20 weeks for my Comets Lindz

I think it was around 20 to 22 weeks. I started this thread while I was "Waiting It Out". I would have to go back and read the beginning of this to say for sure. Are yours "squatting" yet ?

If I touch them they squst down and squeeze out from under my hands. They have been doing that for about 5 weeks so I am guessing that is not what you're talking about.

Probably not a "squatt" like I am referring to. Actually it is what they do when they mate with a rooster. They will drop down real low (or squatt) and kind of freeze in this position. They do it quickly and hold that position. To the hens you are the dominate rooster so they are submitting to you (the dominate rooster). You will know it when you see them squatt for the first time. If you rub the back side of their thigh when they squatt they will "shake off". This they also do after mating with the rooster. I would describe "shaking off" like this. They will stand back up from the squatt position. Ruffle all of their feathers up and shake like a wet dog would shake to shed the water off. Hope this helps
