Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

it's pretty nice weather up here, it got cloudy and kind of windy by late afternoon, gusty enough to blow some feathers the wrong way... but everyone enjoyed at least a few hours of free range, boys in the morning, girls in the afternoon. OEGBrutus and Dutch have been living with the girls for a while now, they range with them.

a friend of mine has a single panel of 10 x 6 chain link fence with a door. he was figuring on collecting panel by panel til he could build an enclosure for a dog, but he's willing to lend it to me for the Winter. it will allow me to have easy access to the 3rd section that's walled off with a doorless panel. I'll have it in a couple of days.

Super busy this weekend doing finishing touches. Realtor is coming Monday to take pictures and get it listed. have to go through a mountain of clothes. 3 piles; keep, toss and donate. Cure time for the counters is up at 9 pm tonight. I've been able to lightly use it most of the week, but I've been careful to keep all use to a minimum.

7 Eggs today,
Peachy's new sentry...

Sillie Silkie is FAT!

So Big Red is due to hatch Monday or Tuesday..and her buddy Roly Poly has been keeping her company. Well, today, when the boys went to put down new shavings...Roly started screeching and fluffing...looked like she had an egg or 2 tucked under...so as an experiment...Chicken Boy set down a few eggs in front of her. She rolled them right under and started purring...hopefully she will sit tight like her bff has.

Also, remember how I had been fussing about low egg counts? I had the boys clean up the barn the other day so I could get it ready for putting up better netting/escape deterrent. They found 4 behind the big brooder box, 2 in the barn loft between a pile of wood, several broken (and empty....eaten?) shells in the other stall...and 17!! in an empty shopvac box...twerps. not sure who i am more frustrated at...the birds, the kids for not looking when I have been telling them to, or myself for being in a cast and unable to do my own chores!

Hubby bought me a bunch of poultry wire to block off their escape routes, and a pumpkin for a treat.

Roger ate almost a half of a pumpkin. I hope she makes it. I know better.

You can't have your PIE and eat eggs too.

Howdy everybody! We have been running around like crazy here, not getting anything done.

Actually had a little rain storm come through today, the last day of summer, so we washed the cars! Saves water that way, and it felt good to be cool and damp. Hubs' trip to China was delayed by a typhoon near Taiwan, so he gets to spend this weekend at home

and is supposed to get out on Mon, if the weather is clear.

A week ago Friday, my 80 yr old dad took a flying fall off of his porch steps and landed on the driveway asphalt. He, of course, did not tell anyone for 2 days, until my sister saw his hugely swollen knee.

Guess he didn't want to be embarrassed. I took him to a new doctor yesterday (Fri), (He hated the old one so much he hasn't been for over 6 yrs.) and had xrays of knee and shoulder, both of which probably have serious soft tissue damage. Luckily, he has been doing a lot this summer - chopping and splitting a downed oak, cleaning moss off his roof, and pressure washing his porch- so was in pretty good shape, or I think it would have been much worse. All summer I've had terrible visions of him getting smashed by a log or falling off the roof, and here he gets clobbered going down the steps.

The chickens are looking pretty sad, with their tattered feathers. My Welsummer looks like she got caught in a tornado or a plucker or something. Glad it's not too cold at night yet because she doesn't have much insulation. And somebody plucked the beards off of both the Ameraucanas. Poor things. Glad they don't have a mirror, or their self esteem would be horribly damaged. I blame the Leghorn. She's such a bully.

Only 3 eggs today, but it was raining and all.

Cheeka, you're putting your house on the market already? Have you looked for properties out west? Sonoma county is very nice

, but too far from Mylee, unfortunately. Is there a moving company that can handle chickens or are you a DIYer? Wonder if the U-Haul folks would freak out over a little chicken poo?

Reina, are you still in a cast? How much longer? Great that you solved the missing egg mystery. Kids are notoriously bad at finding things that are not either candy or toy related. Can't tell you how many times, when I've asked my son to find something in his room, he has said I can't find it! while looking up at the ceiling or staring out the window. Kids, gotta love 'em (because otherwise you would go insane!). Hubby bought me a bunch of poultry wire to block off their escape routes, and a pumpkin for a treat. How long does it take you finish a whole pumpkin?

My computer has been close to death for the past couple of days. Hubs resurrected it long enough tonight to pull off all my photos in case it crashes for good, and it's still working for now, but if you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know I'm out shopping for a new one.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend and good luck with the hatches!

Your dad sounds a lot like mine.
