Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

thanks for all the thoughts on family, they were married for 60 years. after being together so long, it was God's plan to bring them back to each other.
W4W, great news about your Dad, because he wants to get better, he will. ask any physical therapist, they will tell you the same. it's amazing what we humans of all ages can do when it's important. Yea! for hubby coming home, exhausted... but that was a good idea, he'll be so beat, but he would be anyway... it takes 1 day for every hour of time difference to recover, but staying up as long as you can has an impact on swinging that cycle back around a couple of days faster.

I'm nuts... I will be picking up 3 black cochins and 1 blue, all pullets, not yet laying, but will soon... doing this to keep them from going into the freezer... I'll get them sometime this week probably.

lindz, me too... I just shouldn't keep adding #'s when I want to move...but I'm gonna eat Carl soon... he's straightened out very well, but he has a wonky neck to feel it... and I won't breed him.

I was out snapping pics, saw Tiger sunbathing... she's so beautiful with her wings spread, so I went over... and saw something in/on her eye. it's bubbly and wiped right off, her eye is clear and no one else has any bubbly buildup... what is it??? anyone???

just zoomed up close to gross y'all out...

so reading some threads makes me think that she is developing a respiratory problem. the bubbles did not return before roosting, but I will be closing my flock for now and treating for respiratory troubles. no coughing, no sneezing and no rubbing her eye at all... and no one else is showing any symptoms. hopefully I've caught it in it's earliest stage and can treat successfully!

Hi friends miss you all. Life is very busy but want to give you all a update. The chicks are doing great. Still have all 11 of them. The Delaware's are looking good. I believe I have five pullets and one rooster. I think I finally got my Delaware hens. One of them is huge and I believe it is a pullet. Still need you all to give your opinion and confirm this. That's great news if I am right. The BR's I can't really tell. No really developed combs like the one Delaware who is obviously a rooster. Need help from you guys on these BR's determining the sex of them. Pictures soon. RK Broody is doing awesome. Got her feathers back on her head, wings and her poor naked back. She looks great. Can't wait to post her pictures for you all to see. She has been a great broody and hope to give her the opportunity again. Little BO has made great progress with her walking. She is still pretty lame but does get up and walk to where she wants to go. She does rest a lot and has a way to go before she is fully recovered. I couldn't keep her confined any longer it just seemed too cruel. She has been very vocal lately and I really want her back to normal. My thinking was there is no way I could leave her in with the general population and those crazy roosters. So I put her in with RK Broody and the chicks. Seems to be working out great. Just made the switch tonight but everybody seems to get along fine. Little BO certainly is not able to bother anybody a she loved the dirt bath in the run. She walked back into the broody coop at dark and crawled in a nest box beside RK Broody and her chicks. Once again the broody coop is a awesome addition this time for separating birds who need protection. So all good news here. Hope you all can say the same thing.

Only in one eye? I don't know but somebody will. My first thought is if it is respiratory it would be in both eyes. My guess is something got in the eye. But that is a guess.

OK, how sweet that! little BO is nesting with RK! it's going to work out just fine, you would have known within minutes... so cool

and yes, it's just one eye, the eye as can be seen in the picture is very clear except for the bubbles, I've never seen bubbly eyes before, but there are threads about it, mostly turns out to be respiratory... I don't want to take chances, especially with wanting to take those cochins... got a call from the guy who has Pebble, he's got a friend who's now looking for birds, I could give the cochins to him... but I kinda don't wanna... I want them

eta the area around her eye has no odor... the "sick" birds smelled so maybe she got something in it... I'll check her in the morning, if she's clear, I will just watch and wait, if she's bubbly... I'll get meds

crazy day, half great, half sad... phone was ringing early, my friend called to tell me her Dad passed last night, she lost her Mom only 45 days ago. I think he died of a broken heart. she's at a total loss, only finding comfort at the moment in her flock of chickens. phone rang again, egg order, trade for cartons if I want... okay, sure... they asked for 2 dozen. when I was on my route, a lady had bagged up 2 large bags of good buggy leaves for my flock - how nice is that?? then I get to the egg carton lady's house - she has 88 clean egg cartons! all she wants is 2 dozen eggs??? she also had all this day old bread on her porch - free - I got a loaf of whole wheat, 2 loaves of cinnamon raisin, 2 loaves of french bread, and 2 large flats of focaccia - I insisted she take some $$... but all I could get her to take was $4! so much to unload when I got home that I almost didn't notice the parcel on my step - my egg basket is here!! Serious egg basket envy over here! Very cool. Sillie Silkie is so photogenic and expressive. Must be the dark eyes. did I hear you say focaccia bread?
So sorry about your friend's parents. That's really rough. I spent most of today ferrying my dad to doctor visits (remember he took a swan dive off the porch steps). Amazingly he did not break anything. Doing better and started physical therapy. Dr said he was very lucky. Dr does not know that dad is a part time lumberjack and much stronger than he looks! Hubs got back from China today. Yay! We talked to him over Skype yesterday at 4pm our time and he hasn't slept since. Trying to stay up a bit longer to get adjusted back to our time more quickly. He's closing in on 28 hours without sleep, and going to crash soon. Work tomorrow! We got 5 eggs today. Some serious molting going on around here. It was drizzling most of the day, but still warm. We don't get these tropical storms all that much and aren't used to the humidity. My hair gets super curly- it's huge!
W4W I bet he is exhausted. Glad to hear he is home. Will try to get pics of my marans at 12 weeks. no doubt 2 roo, 3 hen. So glad your Dad is OK! He sounds like mine, I sure can understand the worry but they are so tough too. I am always lurking/stalking him like a nutcase watching him! Cheeka I am so sorry for your friend. Same thing happened with both my grandparents. One went, the other followed soon after. I was really young, maybe 15. My last gramma passed away. but the few times I was able to visit burned in my heart. Gram Hornbaker was 93 when she passed. Papaw left us a 2 months before her at 90, he was a coal miner when he was young. He was eat up with cancer but HATED doctors. By time they found it he had passed. Gram just wasted away when he was gone, gave up. Mom moved her here a month and she missed Maryland so much, we took her back home. I really wish I had more time to know all of them better. Gramma miller loved every animal so much. Only time she ever fussed at me is when I caught one of her anole lizards in her aviary, it was so frightened.. My surviving aunts swear I am so much like my Gramma miller and it really makes me feel closer to her. I got 1 guinea egg, 2 duck egg today :( We laid 3. UGH. Processing 7 roos and 2 turkey jakes tomorrow.
