Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Cheeka, tonight's chicken-in-your-face post of Sillie Silkie looks more like a boy with the spikey looking feathers off the back of the head. Be really interested to see what Sillie turns out to be. (Sillie Sue or Sillie Sam?) Of course I have zero experience sexing these guys, but have been looking at lots of pics to see if I can tell them apart. Occasionally, there are Silkies at the feed store and I don't want to make big mistake.

Cheeka, dh forbids me to drive. I know how that sounds. It is just how it is though.
My mother in law spent the morning with me. For the time being, she said she is happy to spend time with me if I don't want to be alone. Haha. Any woman knows that relationship can be tricky at times.

Its only pekin eggs too. The scovie's eggs are fine, but they aren't a true duck either.

yes it is a 28ft camper we cleaned everything out left in elec. he rebuilt the whole thing, my babies love the room they have, at first we had a house in it for our rabbit and it ran around in the part we had for peeps but he chewed a hole in the wood so we took him out before peeps found the hole.

Just love that!! I am planning to do the same thing, a 1974 apache pop up camper-hard sided. Its been everywhere in the states except the west coast.
We retired it a few years back, and upgraded to a regular camper but I just could never part with it.
I think it will make a great mobile coop with an electric fence included. It may be a winter project if its not terribly harsh.

So far hen took the last one that hatched. I hope these all frizzle out. One dark one is a Maran. Fingers crossed its a pullet. The white ones are all frizzled EEs. But all have yellow legs, but all feathered legs. So who knows!

5 Eggs today, and a nice hour+ of free range. wish it could have been a bit longer, but we ran out of high daylight. I have a long day tomorrow too.

the whole flock is mingling around the lilac. main flock, including Peach's older girls, is of course 80% of the main lineup, some are inside and around the back... Peach and her flock are on the right end. no squabbling. sheer perfection.

Looked like a nice day too.

I got 4 eggs again today! 2 from the GC's , one from Clarabelle, and one from an EE girl! I am really liking this! My egg container in the fridge is almost full, and its only been about a week!
MC, keep your head up! You will figure something out! We are all going to be here and be supportive with whatever you need to do!

Wow they are on a roll, that is great!

He just got off short haul. It didn't pay well, and he never slept.
Then again, thanks to new insurance plans, the company insurance is $200/week. Not sure yet how we will afford that!
Anyway, added another roost today. One girl was denoted to bottom of the pecking order, and has been sleeping (thus pooping ) in a nest box. There were a few others sleeping on the floor. Here's to a happier flock! Now if I could just get their feathers to come back in! Penny has been nearly naked for months. She is the second oldest. Maybe that is why she is a favorite to mount.

I need to add roosts too, the few roos I am keeping are huge boys. Setting a 10ft roost a little lower for the bigger birds.

Sillie Silkie Sue is extra puffy with the chill in the air! I decided to forgo capturing "it" to try to photograph... another indication that it may be a pullet, not into being touched..and it pretty much only hangs out with the girls.

the remaining pullet from the last round of chicks is 15 weeks old and has been named. Esther. I think it's a great name for her. Her brothers are Samson and Gilgamesh.

Yep.... My X's mother was a true physco and loved to stir things up.
My MIL now is awesome, love her like my own mom.

W4W, I may have 2-3 serama after seeing the size of my girls. I have one I am pretty sure is an OEGB red pyle. she is a bit larger than the other 2 hens, and about the size of a sebright hen I have. I have 3 sebright roos and haven't chose who will be her beau, one is very agressive so he is on the "free" list. The eggs are super tiny, almost smaller than quail eggs from my silver and the chestnut colored girl. -0- have been fertile so far, and all are cooped with Harry the roo. Tried to use my phone for pics, ugh. to dark and hazy. My lil roo looks just like cheeka's. He is smaller than the red pyle hen too, they were march hatchery tsc chicks. The OEGB hen is super sweet and very friendly. Her egg is a small chicken size egg, exactly the size of guinea eggs. The other 3 are timid, always have been. The roo is cautious but he will follow around and dance for me, really cute!

If my DDs are around this weekend, I really want pics so I know what I have.

Lynda, I cropped this photo for the In Your Face... it was windy... all it's fluff and feathers were blown backwards... but it's 50-50...and so are the opinions. I get so many responses for both sexes. time will tell...


MC, we all have our constraints and compromises in relationships. perhaps, living so rural should be an added consideration in that stand against driving. if I lived in a city, I would give up driving. I'm good at it, but it is too stressful. maybe a recumbent bicycle? those are cool and you can go pretty far with very little effort... I wouldn't recommend one in a city or even a busy suburban area - they are so low to the ground, one can't easily be seen in traffic... even with a big orange flag on the back that waves several feet in the air... my younger brother has one, he needs to put it in his truck and take it to the park. he'd almost been run over several times while trying to ride it to the park. I have such a blast on that thing!
it's too difficult to manage day to day needs if you have to rely on someone else all the time for the simple things like grocery shopping. sure, lots can be done on the weekends, when he's home, but golly... forget one thing and it can mess up your whole week...
my last 2 relationships have been with men who didn't truly understand what a compromise is. both of them thought it meant I get my way this time, you get your way next time. that's not a compromise. nobody gets "their way" in a true compromise, but it's fair for everyone. best example I gave to both of them is: we have 5 apples. I want 3 and so do you. it's not a compromise to say okay, this time you get 3, and next time I get 3. this time, and every time, we both get 2.5. Fair. it was a harder lesson to teach than one would think... maybe the 2 of you can reach a compromise about driving. it's very unbalanced and unfair to keep you at such a distance from any kind of social strata. Love is complicated...

such a gloriously wide and fluffy fanny... I can easily imagine this one with lots of chicks... they'd be so cozy and warm tucked up in all that fluff... she needs a name. her face reminds me of the Chimpanzee, Zira, from Planet of the Apes...except with a beak of course... it's the low brow and small cheek feathers that does it... Zira might stick... we'll see.


4 Eggs again today, thought I was only going to get 3... but I just went out to help Sillie up on the roost, and did a last check. final egg is a tiny Marans Egg.
