I like your dark egg. My Welsummer lays a pretty speckled egg like your Marans. Well, she used to. She stopped laying when the others started going broody this summer, continued the sympathy egg strike when her coopmates were molting, and then had a very hard molt of her own. I'm hoping she will start back up this spring. This was the chick I rescued from the not-expected-to-survive brooder at the feed store. Even in the less crowded brooder she was cold and getting stepped on, and when I got her home found that she had an umbilical hernia. Touch and go for the first couple of days, but good ol' TLC did the job. She was my last to begin laying (7+ months) and also grew some short spurs, so I never had high expectations for her to begin with. Named her Grace because, as I told the kids, it's not always in our control.
