Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

CLindz, that is one of my EE's. not sure which one, without a face... I have 6 black and white EE's, this could be 1 of 4 that are similarly patterned - funny, their faces look nothing at all alike. different colored beards, or no beard at all...

MC, show this to your husband. since forever... the tending of the flock has been Woman's Work (sorry OK) see here? the man and the boy are sitting on their duffs.

I got another tiny egg today, and it was covered in yolk, so there must have been a soft shelled egg too... waiting for bantam Marans Esther... she might be starting, although... it could be a Cochin. 4 Eggs so far today

PVC pipes! I have the one inch. Get a cutter for about $13, and even arthritic hands should be able to cut the pipe. It is ten feet long. You may not need to cut it for your purposes. Don't forget to add (PVC) supports every so many feet. Run chicken wire around the sides, and zip tie bird netting over the top.
I used 1 1/2" "T" connectors on the 1" pipe to add the supports in the middle.

I had just drug the run across the yard. The one pipe did pop out. Please ignore that. I didn't glue the pieces together because I knew I would want to expand the run in the future. I plan on gluing the pieces in the spring. I f I want to expand, I will just cut the pipe somewhere, and attach a connector. If you look, you can see that I did let the wire extend away from the run for predator protection.

That's a good idea! Especially for a temporary set up! I wish I had thought about that when I was trying to separate the chicks last fall.

Thank you, Lindz. Another quick idea that I have also used, is to take a few of those metal stakes that cost three to six dollars, and just hook the fencing on there. Again, use bird netting over the top.
I use that (minus the netting) for the dog run. It will double as a chick run.

I think Bonnie is either starting to lay, or going to really soon! She squatted today for both Rogue and Clyde! I also got a pretty light plum colored egg....Not sure who that came from

.... I think we decided which of the Marans boys is going to get to stay here instead of heading to freezer camp NEXT weekend! I am going to put all the other roosters in the freezer. The girl I've been getting the EE's from is going to help me! She is also going to trade me 3 hens for 10 dozen eggs! She has a wholesale buyer from the farmers market that she can sell to, and I haven't had any interest for my eggs here, and no time to go sit at the farmers market so it works out well for both of us. She is giving me $3/doz (avg price for our area) so I think it is a pretty good deal.

Here are pictures of the 3 girls I am possibly trading for....

MC, that is really cool - I may do something like this for the warmer months... PVC tends to shatter up here after a few winters... but it would last longer if I only solvent weld (glue) certain parts for good stability and still be able to disassemble and store for the worst part of winter... and that way, it could be expanded as there are still joints that aren't permanent... that glue basically melts the PVC and it fuses together as one piece, not a long cure period either. smart idea... lightweight, portable...

lindz, that's a great price considering she's going to sit and do the selling! and those pullets/hens are beautiful!
