Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Geese are less messy than ducks. That much I can tell you!
The pekin I have are going this year, ugh. not working out at all.
The muscovy ducks are nothing like the pekin.
I have a quad of them, eat like a chicken does.
The 7 pekin I have eat more than the geese. There is 14 geese! And they are as much as 30 pounds.

Hattie is such a good girl. I am almost sorry I called her Psychochicken. I wonder if she will revert to her pre-egg laying habits of attacking me when my back is turned.

she might, or she might not. like Janet said, if she does... pin her. highly effective. any time I was confronted (mostly roosters), I would step in and dominate. for the most part, once they start to lay, they become more "chilled out". at this point, my flock is really easy going. even Blu will eat next to Peach without pecking at her. (

Blu was the only one who disrespected Peach.) I see the occasional peck during feeding, but it's barely enough to cause a squawk and never are feathers pulled. outside of Rose jumping to peck at the snack container... no one dares do more than peck at my jeans, or the buttons on my jacket. not that they're "scared" of me... hardly... we have a good bond. but at breakfast time, they mob me at the door and it's a ridiculous effort to simply get inside without spilling the water...

I'm supposedly getting two Sebastopol geese in the spring... I think my husband finally forgave me for bringing in more animals!!!!

oooh I hope you do get them! ~ those are beautiful!

I bet it was scrumptious lindz!!! I'm looking forward to eating the Foster boys too... I told my friend (who processed them) that he could have one of the younger boys, both are suitable for roasting. the almost 2 year old will be soup. he didn't want to do that at first, but he takes care of his Mom, who's almost 80, and she is a farm girl, born and raised... wouldn't she appreciate a fine fresh chicken dinner??? ahh the smile that came over his face... he was very thankful ~ and so am I... it's not an easy job...
