Yay for eggs! I got 17 today! They are getting pretty consistent with over 15 every day!

Here are the pictures of the chicks (and the ducks) So far, I have lost 4 of the chicks I just got. Not sure if the day was too much for them coming to the class and maybe a draft or too much handling. Dunno. So, supposedly they are BR's and 1 BO and the ducks are 2 indian runners and a welsh harlequin. Do the little black and whites look like BR's? And roos at that? I will try to take a picture of the wing feathers that are coming in. Doesn't seem like barring at all. More like splotches!

Those duckies are too cute! Sorry about the losses! I hear chickies are fragile. Tho thankfully I haven't lost any from my batch.

BO looks right, but those are not BRs. Not sure what they are. I'll do some checking.

I've seen that coloration before, and they will be mottled adults. (black with white spots)


So possibly mottled Java (yellow legs), Ancona (yellow legs), mottled Cochins (feathered legs), or mottled Old English (white legs).

The ducklings are adorable.

Look up anconas. I saw some at the feed store that look just like that

lindz, that is one strange soft shell - I've never been able to play with one like that without putting my thumb through it or just the act of picking it up causing it to split open... surely it's stress related... in another few day, all should be back to normal.

it's bitter bitter cold this morning, -6 without the wind. and we're going to get another foot of snow tomorrow.. although I'm on the line to maybe get less...

I really hope we only get the 6 inches that's predicted for a little further west. I'm so done with this.
