Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Nothing to do, so we might as well lay.

Including the 5th lovely little Wellie egg!

I can't sleep, so o looked up "Chickens" on my kindle. I am now reading, The Care and Feeding of Rubber Chickens.
I swear it was written by this group.

Freezer burned roast beef, Stale crackers, A apple core, Frozen pears, and a little scratch mixed in. All you can eat pumpkin. Breakfast is served.

That was won wucky wabbit. Its cold out, my chickens are bored, just waiting for me to feed them....no, they are not just waiting, the are squabbling and chasing each other across the poarch...funny how loud the thndering of chicken feet across the poarch can be, then the squawks and screaming protests, they got fed early today, mostly so I could see who the instigator is.....don't want them to think they are getting rewarded for bad behavior. Tick tock Mr perpetrator, tick tock.

Well, here it is. Kay and Bev are BR, named after my two friends, 1 BA named Aussie, 5 RIR-Lucy,Ethel,Martha,Tote,Wavie, 2-lace wyandottes-Gladys and Ricco. 3 extremely spoiled dogs, Otis, Luke and Charlie who think we survive because of them. One extremely tired(of catering to me and my girls) DH. He has put around $700 plus into this chicken adventure and just bought a used dog kennel to expand the chic yard for me. He's somethin!! I told him our 43rd ann. is coming up and that is what we both need for our girls to enjoy and have more fun with more room, he bought it used for $50 and already has it set up for staking in. They don't make em like that anymore! I also have 2 grandsons and one daughter living here with us. The whole chicken thing came up because the youngest grandson (11) wanted to raise chickens and sell the eggs. Well after the coop got built and all the hubub stopped, he forgot they were here, so in comes "Momo and Papa to the rescue of these cute, cuddlie little girls. He occasionally goes to check or feed or collect eggs once in a while, with being told to. Oh well, what else do we have to do? I work 4 days a week as a chef at a Winery and my DH is retired, so there ya go! Roger is contacting my Bev with underground contacts coming in through the coop somehow, she used to be so loveable sitting on my lap and jumping on my arm, well, now all of the sudden she doesn't give me the time of day. She thinks her eggs are the Bestest in the Coop, and gotten a swollen ego. I usually get 7-9 eggs a day and on the 9 days I swear its her holding out. What can you do? Just like grandkids, love em anyway.

The first one is quite good, and I like NACHOS. (Really, they're yummy.) There's a great song for it too. "Nacho, nacho man..... I want to be .. a nacho man...."

Well, the girls (4 hens) are gone. I am going to miss them. Before they left, I got three eggs from them. Penny just laid hers (finally!!!) a few minutes ago. I was half afraid she wouldn't with everyone in the nesting room/chick room/ small coop.

Lots of names, but it will soon have one more. "medium coop". I am turning the brooder into an actual small coop. I will add walls, access doors, and a RUN! It doesn't matter if I am using it for quarantine or chicks. I hate leaving a bird in there without outdoor access! The plan is to use whole sheets of plywood as opposed to having to cut. I am afraid of electric saws, and my husband can't cut a straight line on a 2X4! The plan is simple. Let's see how complicated it can get!

How is everyone else doing today? We have really nice weather, so I am playing with the garden area, and adding more sand to the coop.

Hi gainke! Sounds like you've got a good thing going. Chickens are so addictive. My hubby was skeptical of them at first, but now really enjoys them and loves the eggs. Watch out for that Roger. She's a bit of a devil, but what's a BR without a big personality?
