awww, Roger! Santa will send Cupid down to escort her personally... She can't miss out, She can ride on Santa's shoulder... I'll have my family put out some meal worms along with the cookies ~ my granddaughter will pick some grasses for her, it's going to be Grand!
I'm so glad to hear that you found the bleeding issue MC, my boys scrap from time to time, but it's nothing more serious than a pinched comb, just a tiny bit of blood, and it's less frequent now that Peach is laying ~ Si doesn't have to protect her every move as she is an accepted contributor to the flock. a screw is a nasty thing to catch yourself on, but it means that things are certainly more peaceful within your gang.
snow snow snow... wind wind wind... a few small areas of "damage" in the enclosure from the wind, but it only took minutes to fix, some of the vinyl shifted with the wind, but once it was refitted it was really nice inside. Peach was in the apple coop, nesting in an awesome bed of fresh hay, she looked quite content, perping quietly, a few of the older gals came in while I was visiting with the roof up, no escapees because it was snowing pretty hard, and I shooed them out so Peach could have her privacy. if she's going to move in here, which it appears that she has... I was going to set up her food and water in there... so I went inside to get supplies, and got sidetracked scooping cat litter. the cats litter room is a workshop room off the garage, and the dome is just outside this rooms window. all of a sudden I hear Peach singing the egg song. followed by a chorus of clucking from the older gals. I just had to run back out and see. another perfect egg, her 3rd. and she was back in the enclosure, strutting her stuff with the big chickens. I'd have to go back and re-read to see if I finished the saga of Peaches 2nd egg, but anyway, she did lay one that night, from the roost, it was cracked, which prompted me to pick up the new hay bales for cushioning in case it happens again. Plus, it makes it much more cushy for laying. she won't use the nest box. I hung out with them inside the dome for about a half an hour, just fussing around and visiting. it was so noisy and blustery outside, but man, that dome is excellent! earlier in this post, I said it was nice in there... well, that's how I felt after fixing all the drafty spots. Spending more time later with the storm at it's worst, I'm confident that this set up will stand the test of time. My plan is to actually expand it come Spring, and add one more coop for when the chicks are ready to be moved in. they can live in the portable run once they are feathered. my car mechanic is a good friend of mine and he will bend me some pipe, it will be really easy to add sections.
I only got 2 eggs by 4:00, peewee's the both of them. Peaches egg and a BR, it's Wilma who lays the peewee, the other BR egg is consistently larger. and I finally saw Betty climb out of the nest, leaving a nice med/lg egg. I had every intention of going back out, but I laid down on the couch to close my eyes for a half hour, and woke up 3 hours later. oh well... lol DAY OFF Tomorrow!
