Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Why jump 50¢ ? Go up a quarter, and charge for the cartons or offer an option of bring your own, the people who swear you won't get more? Are those your steady customers? Yeah, I'd tell you that too. Everyone know the cost of feed went up. I don't wash eggs, they stay fresher longer without. At your prices they can wash their own. I really wouldn't apologize for the price of my eggs, take it or leave it. If you cater to cheapskates that will ever be your client base. Just starting you'll be lucky to break even...it takes time. I feed fermented whole corn in the winter for energy, its mostly sugar but metabolizes to heat...I know this is a long standing argument, but I've studied my Krebs cycle and guess what. I also feed whole oats and barley, dog food for protein and layer mash/ dry just as breakfast cereal. They still free range and eat anything green or moves. I planted winter wheat and rye for greens...hope it is growing now. I don't plan to sell eggs, even to defray costs, I either eat them or give them away or supplement the dogs for the food I stole from them.

ahhh, how nice to be home during daylight hours! fixed the gang some good Pie, feed, oatmeal, leftover french toast, BOSS, got Peach some fresh water, hers wasn't frozen yet, but glad to swap it out early! she still eats and drinks from the roost, but can mingle for free range and treats... no one wants to have anything to do with the snow! there's no grass visible anyway, we've gotten at least another dusting if not more, everyday since the big storm... hard to keep up with the accumulation... Got all the windows sealed in the house, just use plastic but it's so time consuming, the windows in this house are pretty old and drafty... now that winter has firmly settled in, it was really time to get it done. I don't use flexopane inside either... just 6 mil translucent plastic... I gave the chickens the crystal clear stuff...

5 eggs, so far... and that may be the final total... Blu and Betty didn't lay, and I am not sure who's on the PM shift, the last one I saw was one of the reds... and one of those brown eggs may very well be from last night, nice and warm tho', it's nice that they gather them all together before settling in to lay the next egg, they are all toasty.

for the hard boiled eggs, I don't use vinegar, but have read about it... I do the ice water plunge... the leftover eggs will be easier to peel in a day or two. I don't mind, I've always known that it's easier to peel if the egg is a little older. but leaving them in the fridge already cooked works too if you leave them for 2 days...

Another sunny day here, but the clouds are rolling in. Not supposed to rain much, but hope it will keep things a bit warmer at night. It froze again last night. Got 5 eggs so far, but two are sitting and one keeps thinking about it. Still hoping for a perfect egg day.

Here's a recent pic to show you all just how brutal the winters are here. The mob invaded what is left of the garden, dangerously imperiling the kale. All 11 are in the pic, but spot is trying to hide. Can you see her?

You'll never find me!

Everybody needs at least one BR. I think I see a BA, BO, Red Sex Link, Leghorn, Laced Wyandotte, RIR, Delaware,Maran,......just a bunch of guesses. What do I see? I get any right besides Rogers cousin?

I agree. As 'common" as RIRs are, I think BR are more popular. Especially in photos for feed, magazines, etc.
Four eggs. I am glad to see others are having low counts too. I was hoping for more, but my last chick order was to acquire broodies, not layers. Four is good. Especially with new layers. I am just so happy they are starting to lay!
