Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

4 here as well! it was supposed to be really nice out today... but the sun never burned through the clouds, and it started to rain lightly in the afternoon, glad it stopped, but, now it's super windy. it's still supposed to be nice out tomorrow, so

.......

my girls are looking ratty, but I think it's from over-mating, those chicks can't grow up fast enough.... they are so cute... I added another roost to the crate, they enjoy roosting during daylight, but still sleep in a big ole peep pile... forgot to mention, they are finally eating out of my hand... couple of days now. or maybe i did mention... I'm so bonkers with life right now... no bh... just overloaded (as usual) with work, and winter is just more difficult, even tho' I like the cold weather. the snow auger on tractor needs some parts, 150 bucks worth, but parts are ordered and it'll get done. it's pretty old, but not for a John Deere if you think about it... it's a 1989. that's still new considering that it will probably run for a few more decades...

I buckled down and did some housework, made a dent that I can actually see (and smell!) it's nice... hopefully, I will get a few more days with energy left over to continue the battle!

Cold weather here for the next few days, although nowhere near as cold as Cheeka's mountain. 7 eggs today. Yay! The back of Spot's neck looks like a one of those little African hedgehogs. All prickly with pinfeathers.

We had a very nice day here, sunny, and i think we hit 48. Felt really good to be outside with the warm sun, I went down one side of the perimeter fence, we are looking it over for the cattle this spring. So far its looking really good! I may only need to buy 500 feet and posts to get the back half pasture secured. Cattle fence is pretty reasonable, like $140 for 330 feet.
I had all my big birds out most of the day! Freshened up the coop, lots of fresh hay, scrubbed off cleaned the poop boards. The last few days, egg count has been 1-3 a day. Not great but its ok, cold out yet. Winter usually goes away by mid April so i am starting to count days!
This must be backache weather. I have been pretty miserable and Motrin is my friend right now. I injured my back, tore a muscle when i was young and stupid. This last week its been awful.

Hate feeling bad, takes me twice as long to do my chores. My pigs were acting like little puppies They got lots of hay too, and were running around squealing and being goofy! My little Roxy is still tiny, she may be 40 pounds if that. she is almost 6 months old now.. She is such a lover girl! Both of them just love scratches, if i rub Bacon's ears he flops over like a dog. My Alpaca were really moody, grumpy guys. Comet was spitting at Beanie a lot, what a grouch! Think they liked the cold better, ugh, my boys.
My 16 lil Australorps are just adorable little things. They got the ugly phase going on now, gangly legs, clumsy lol! They still frighten easily, but come running full tilt when I open the big crate up. They are all perching very well, and eat like little pigs! i started them on mealies, and pinch the heads off to be safe..I read somewhere that the bigger mealies can actually damage a chicks crop. I have chick grit in there for them too. I may start the fodder this week so when they hit 4 weeks they can start to enjoy greens. Hubby wants me to order the BOs NOW.. LMAO!!! I told him not til the lorps are outside... He is really getting into the chickens too!

An egg today made my bottom hurt! It was only 77g, my biggest was 80g. But this one was just so fat! And I think my huge one came from an older hen. I only have pullets now. Just, ouch!

Peach is injured. I don't have a picture (yet) but she is missing a chunk of flesh larger than a silver dollar under her right wing. it's gross. I put a big gob of neosporin on it... and stuck a gauze pad on it. she seems fine, laid an egg today and everything... and I did see her peck at it so she may be the one that made it worse... I think it may be from Si's toenails, and mounting her... caused a scratch and it now is this gaping hole... I really hope she heals. She's inside the house, in a crate next to the chicks. she's eating and drinking and seems fine... so I"m just hoping... 6 eggs, but 1 was cracked as one of the roosts fell down and landed on it...

I hope Peach gets better quickly.
Nine eggs for me. When I cleaned everything up, and put the eggs in cartons, I had 3 1/2 dozen, and each carton weighed in at large. I hope no one balks at the smaller eggs. I rotated them to make the weights more even. I doubt many people realize that eggs are weighed not sized.

For sure I would keep her from the Roos. If she leaves it alone I bet she will be alright. If she picks at it thats a problem. Is it called Blue Kote that you put on it? There are thousands of experts on BYC who will give you better advice than me. But those are my first thoughts. Where are you seeking advice so I can follow and learn something.

Poor Peach! I don't know all that much about treating them either, but I have read to NOT use antibiotic ointment containing painkiller. Anything with "-caine" is not good for chickens. Blue Kote is supposed to be good to prevent picking. Prevent infection and picking and she should heal up fine. Sounds like your bases are covered.

Hey OK, a moderator told me how to get the "nested quotes." Had to go into my profile and change some settings. There's all sorts of stuff in there I hadn't seen before.

all the farm/feed stores around here close at 6 pm, so I was out of luck to get Blue Kote last night, but that is what I want to get for her. I don't have an extensive first aid kit in the house, and don't have any "caine" items, so thanks for the tip W4W... sorry I didn't get back online last night... so much to do... Peach is doing well this morning, drinking water readily and it doesn't look like she picked at it. I took the gauze off last night. I figure air is good. She will stay inside until she is healed. I am inclined to think that it will be a couple of weeks at the least. it may be looking like such a hole if the skin dropped ~ it almost looks like she could use a couple of stitches. Peach is such a remarkable little bird. so tame, she will let any person hold her cheerfully.

Golly, the flu map is getting crazy! 45 states! W4W, you are quite fortunate to be in California as far as the flu is concerned... it's the "one" benefit of being a celiac as well ~ overactive immune system. I don't often get colds and flu type illnesses, but I do get cooty-like things like weird rashes and am susceptible to parasites (ew)
Hope everyone stays healthy!!!!!!
