Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

howdy howdy howdy... today was one of the longest days I've had in quite some time! I had venison tenderloin already cooked in the fridge, meant for a nice sandwich... but it became a hunk of meat on a fork. it was sooooo good... I marinated it in Worcestershire sauce and grape juice, cooked with a butter baste to perfect rare... so lazy of me to just stab it and eat like a barbarian.
In my house we call that a meatsicle. You realize you have just called my children barbarians!

Hope tomorrow is not so hectic.

Quote: Yes, a definite bonus being close, and the folks were very efficient with their time, a very quick meeting. It's a small club, only about 12 or so kids all doing beef and dairy cows, goats, and swine. I guess word got out that I was going to step in as poultry leader, so there were 2 other kids there who were interested. Yay! Now I just have to get myself signed up all official like, get finger printed, go to training, and figure out what the heck a poultry leader does. Oh yeah, also find out about the ins and outs of chicken competitions and showing. Weeeeeee...!!!

My bad Jchny2000. If they all hatch you will ONLY have 29 new chickens instead of 33. I have learned that less than 30 is considered "a few" in chicken math. So your just adding a few chicks. Very clever of you to stop at 29. Now am I supposed to believe that you will retire those two new incubators after these chicks hatch?

lol. Party on friend i'm looking forward to it too. Marans......I want Marans.

I think we all want Marans. Yesterday the local hatchery was having a big "thing" due to a bunch of good hatches. They had (that I wanted) White Rocks, BO, GLW, SLW, and Cuckoo Marans. They also had BR, and a bunch of bantams. It was very hard not ordering (they would be here in 20 minutes!!) but I did not. Chick Days are coming, and there is a lot I should do before adding more chickens. Not to mention, I had another dozen eggs yesterday. Until I put up a sign, I really don't need anymore eggs. I should wait until I can get my BCM, and then stop. I SHOULD. I didn't say I would.
California... Whew! A truck can be brand new (and I do mean NEW!) with all emissions regulations followed, but the truck cannot go into CA because they just changed their laws yesterday (it was more like 2 days by the time we got there). After a hassle, and CA finding out that no truck can meet their idea, they let us in. You get to the shipper/receiver in Mexifornia (gotta love the Roach Coaches! Fresh Mexican food!) and then find out that you cannot sleep there, and the closest truck stop is a McDonald's that allows 10 trucks max. It is also an hour away, and we were almost always out of hours because the Mexicans loading us took their sweet time. They sometimes understand English, but just deny it, and other times they really don't know what they should be doing because no one translated it to them. Fun!
It is hot as blazes, but you can't turn on your A/C due to regulations. The dogs get cactus in their nose and behind because the few places they can go are decorated with ... Cactus! What else? You also have to have your axles slid juuuust right, while still following weight laws. Keep in mind. California decides what loads are brought in. If they want a big load, they cannot demand that axles be slid this way, but weight be distributed that way.
Bottom line, the laws for truckers are harsh and constantly changing, there is a lack of truck stops (also really bad in New England) and the dogs have no place to potty (Chopper went 3 days without even peeing. I finally had DH block traffic momentarily to allow her to pee and poop in a patch of grass I saw. Yes. I cleaned up the poop.).

Well, MC, that sounds about right for California. Regulate first, figure out if it will work later.

And be careful about about telling anyone your dog didn't get to go potty, they'll fine you for animal cruelty. And remember be really careful if you have to wipe your a.. ahh... nose. Yeah, nose because you're sure to be breaking some regulation!

I want a black copper Marans too. Or a calm chicken that will lay really dark eggs. There are some new imports, but they are Mediterranean and a bit flighty. The BCMs have the darkest eggs of the Marans, I think. At least I've got my Welsummer, rusty brown eggs with spots.

I see you online ACW! Hope you are happily home and feeling better. Just found out that my friend (since 4th grade) was in the hospital this weekend. They haven't figured out what's wrong yet, but it's related to the fact that her gall bladder was removed a few years back.

Hey! Yeah w4w, right now just got moved into another smaller waiting room at the Dr office. Glad they squeezed me in before he goes out of the country, so this trip is more of a formality....would rather be home! My chickens aren't laying. I will go outside and find out why as soon as it warms up enough. Otherwise they are all getting along well...which is surprizing me.....something is up. Have about ten Dr visits coming up...these things take all day but I'll sign on when i can and can get signal! This thread makes me laugh, you all are funny.

Well, a doctor's office is a step up from the hospital. Glad to hear from you ACW, and sorry you are going through all this. Chickens are a great antidote to stress. Get yourself one of those Silkies and turn it into a lap chicken and you can even carry it to your appointments in a purse like Paris Hilton does with her dogs.

Another beauteous day today, but Mustacheio came home early today from school because of a sick tummy (it's going around).

He'll be alright, though. He's already feeling better just getting away from school and communing with the chickens.

I have reading extensively about worming chickens, and although I'd ideally rather not, I think they need it. Anyone have any worming experience?

Hey animal lover I just saw your work...what medium are you using? I just got some faber/castil watersoluable color pencils for Xmas. They are blendable and can use them like oils too. I thought theyd work great for chicken feather details. I see alot of talent there just want you to use unlined paper. You could frame those you've done and sell them in crafty store no problem. Seriously!

Well, all I had when I did those was a pencil, a yellow highlighter, a red pen, and some lined paper. I was too lazy to get up and get anything else

A woman in my local thread has a trio of BCM at POL for me. I will swap her or buy them if she isn't interested in what I have. She also has Favorelles (sp?) and EE trios. I will get the birds next Tuesday.
