Spot is much smaller than I expected, not that I plan on eating her. Well, not unless it's absolutely necessary. (Got to sound tough in case you-know-who is reading the thread.) The Rocks that were at the chicken show last month were huge. Spot looks like a bantam compared to those big heritage birds. They probably eat more, though, and have blah personalities.

Roger and Carl are both small birds. Both BR's... But they eat as much as the best of them.

I think ROGER is a Kooko/ Bluff Orsumpting. Pretty rare. Only good for meat birds. It takes about a year of pure screaming hel.l and $75. dollars to get them to 4 pounds. I don't reccommend them.

Wilma is qualified to be an Orsumpting variety. She has perfected the art of laying Bantam sized eggs GO BR's!

My EE is one of the largest and heaviest of the mob. Australorp, SLWyandotte, NewHamp, and SexLink are large and solid. The BOrp looks big, but she's a lot of fluff. The only one lighter than Spot is the slender WLeghorn. She is never still enough to put on weight.

Yes, poor Belle, the dummkopf. I think she is getting pretty bored, and open for any form of excitement, other than our sloooow and short walks. I keep her in the house a lot so she will chill, but then the doorbell rings and she's off like a shot. Had to cut back her food, so she stays lean. Not enough exercise. There's not much for a dog to do that doesn't involve running or eating. She and Scooter play tug and they face-wrestle, but not since the reinjury.

Well, 5 chix eggs, 3 goose eggs!

Something must have clicked "on" in the EEs head, she is starting to lay regular. I am so happy, DH thinks its so cool! He likes her now

And asked me why she doesn't have a name yet...So she gets a name. Thinking "Bunny" cause she hops, then runs just like a rabbit. I rarely see her just walk and forget catching her, unless she is in the coop run.

Town meeting went really well. We are still zoned AG, but I am calling the county tomorrow with more questions. The livestock per acre rule, I want the actual codes and I want to read them.... The town Atty also stated that we cannot be rezoned, Hmmm I want to hear that from the county too. met the 2 other people on our road we had not met yet. DH mentioned all our critters to the other hubbies, HA! you hear guys gripe about how women chatter

No offense meant to any of the awesome men here) We stood outside over an hour, in the cold talking chicken, cows, goats, etc, etc

exchanged emails and cell #s, soo coooollll!!!!! Us wives said our pleasantries and finally went for the cars, froze to the bone, BRRRRRR! the guys... still talking....

4X4s, guns, big dually trucks, ugh the meeting ended at 730. it was 1030 when we got home, 10 min away

I went to get my trio of BCM. I was offered a trio of EE and Salmon Favorelles. I said no. I have EE eggs thanks to my Ameraucana pair being in with the big gang. Why take someone else's? And the Favorelles lay small eggs. I am not into that. So what happened? You KNOW what happened!! We were talking, as we walked back to my car with the trio. And it occurred to me... If I took 2 Splash EE, and put them in with the BCM now, I will have green egg layers sooner than if I waited until hatching out more Ameraucana girls, and a BCM boy, then putting them together. So we came home with 5 instead of 3. The smell of poop (it was a long trip!) got so bad that at one point DH and I actually WANTED to hit a skunk!
The coop didn't get done. DH swore he would shut up, and just cut the boards, and hold a board when needed. Didn't happen. Not only did one section get messed up (I do need to fix it, but I will wait a few weeks), but the walls are still not all on. The plus side is that theoretically, I just have to nail one wall on, and figure out the lock situation for the pop door to make it okay to put the new gang in. But I didn't see the new wall DH cut, so IDK if it is going to work. Please understand, my husband likes to talk, but he is NOT a carpenter by any means. I don't understand how the man can make model cars. Maybe because the pieces are precut?
The other stuff still not done are the hardware cloth (it is almost done) the roofing paper (that is a quick job) and adding one awning. All stuff to do alone. That is the good thing. The hard part will be getting 5 new chickens out of the place they are at,, and into the new coop without anyone escaping.
The bathtub was going to be their home for the night, but as we were carrying boxes into the house, I walked past the stairwell to the basement. Then I remembered that I had said last summer about it being a good quarantine pen. It is cement, has a good sized window, ventilation, and a light if I change the bulb. As well as 2 landings. So, I get to try to catch them in there. They may be flying around the basement for awhile if it doesn't go well!

Ugh MC, sounds like a really bad day.

Basement is good, it is safe for them, no worries. I am using my breezeway with the concrete floor and insulated uncovered walls. no heat in there

Its what works and gets us where we want to be with our flock.
