Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

wow OK! I got the poop walk this morning too! Mylee and I went out to feed the cluck clucks...and I had no time to change, so... I was a minute late to work, because, of course, I did change... can't go smellin' like poop with stains............ yesterday we got 4 eggs, Mylee broke 3 of them and ate the last one. she hit a slippery spot and raised her basket carrying arm really fast...we got 1 today, at one point, the boys were singing the egg song, really... just Si and Archie... Isis was in the nest, she hadn't laid yet. it was in the 40*s, sunny and puddles everywhere... we let the chickens out and Mylee had a blast running around, back and forth between the areas where the chickens were flocking... I am trying to upload some videos, so I'm back on the lap top for the evening, and the newest pictures are on the desktop....I'll post some tomorrow. Yesterday, Mylee met her half sister and her Grammy, she will meet that Grampy tomorrow... today she met her Grandma and her Grandpa, tomorrow we will go to the animal rescue that's down the hill. it's a really nice farm, grant work with animals, quite successful, she'll have fun, Grandpa will meet us there... then we go to Grammy and Grampy's and her sisters house... busy day! but we'll start off with a great breakfast of bacon and eggs and french toast slices.

JC, she is at her sister's right now. She is looking at apartments, but it takes the Veterans ppl about 6 mos. to process her request for funds, so she can't afford anything right now (they pay a chunk of money each month towards housing).
Fifteen/17 eggs today. One EE and an unknown short. I tried to make a run for the BCM and EE, but I cut one pipe too short and misjudged the height I needed. Not to mention the corner connector I need. I taped that corner, and tried to make do with what I had, but I am not taking everything apart again in a few days when I get back to Lowes. Time (pretty much) wasted.
I did get the coop fridge onto the back porch, and cleaned up. I also got a lot of house cleaning done. My husband sure does leave me big messes to clean up!!

Here are some pics of the chicks today. Lots of poop for such small creatures! The concrete is easy to clean, so I won't waste my time with pine chips all over the floor. The brooder is full if they want something to snuggle into. So far they are just perching on the brooder. I am still not sure how well the Cochin(?) can fly. She (I think I managed to get all pullets!
yesss.gif
) was the last to make it out of the brooder. She, the other bantam and a Leghorn were still on the ledge of the stairs (see previous post for pic of stairs) so I put them into the brooder when I had it clean. The Leghorn flew out immediately, the non feather legged flew out a moment later. The Cochin kept trying. Apparently she made it. The Leghorn with her may be the same one that was on the ledge with her. Friends or afraid?

MC, they are so cute! I want to move Peach and the chick into the portable run, hoping to do that tomorrow as well as everything else... I need my dining room back...

MC they are adorable! Cheeka, sounds like a wonderful visit with lots more fun planned!
We are fighting with the yard here before the weeds take off, and preparing the pasture to get cows.
My milking goats should be very soon also, i get the little buck in 2 weeks, and finally found a milker.Gosling #2 is a grey! Its pipped the shell

Very strange that this announcement came up and my reply box is different and I can't do anything but type. :( I haven't changed my browser that I'm aware of. Anyone else have this happen? I will not be happy if I can't use the goofy smilies!

MC, your chicks look great. Those Leghorns are good fliers. Mine flew for about 50 feet and made it over a 5ft fence into dog territory. Fortunately we got to her before Belle-the-chicken-plucker.

Haha! Good poop stories. Some evenings I let the mob out into the larger yard (put the dogs inside) and it seems like they go all over the place loading up on bugs and grass. Their last stop is always the patio, where of course they poop all over. The entire yard at their disposal and they have to mess up the patio!

Only 5 eggs today, but it's been raining steadily and they don't like being stuck in the coop/run. Not enough privacy for egg laying. I have high expectations for tomorrow!

Mustacheio has been away since Tues, at 6th grade Outdoor Education Camp. It's been mighty quiet around here. He gets back tomorrow afternoon. Hope he's had a chance to dry out!

Time to get hubby and see why I have the no frills reply box. More poop!

Can't get the mower started here so the weeds are starting to take over!

Smiley test: :barnie It won't show for me but we'll see when I submit.

edited: Well, it shows up, but I need to fix this reply box situation. :idunno

So far today I have cleaned the shed, cleaned up around the coop, and shoveled some sand into a wheel barrow, but can't put it in the coop until I take the tarp off the wall, and get the broken roost down. Then comes making sure the current sand is fairly clean, remove the feeder and waterer, and figure out where I want them. Then I can staple the tarp back up (tightly!) and add the sand. Following that I need to put up another roost, and then clean the other side where all the pine shaving s are. THEN I can clean the new coop (already!) and put together (probably) a/the new coop DH will be getting me for my birthday. Tired yet?
Okay, so I cleaned the shed (which I am fighting myself to not make into yet another coop), cleaned up around the outside of the big coop, and got the eggs into the fridge on the porch. Wow! Is my fridge empty!! Then I cleaned behind the shed. Now I need to clean up that mess. I threw everything in front of the shed to dry out, and decide what is worth keeping. Chicken wire is hard to bag up. Especially without hurting yourself!
I am straining more ff, then I will get some laundry done, vacuum, and clean the tub. I am really hoping to take a long bubble bath tonight with plenty of cold beer. OMG I am a redneck!!

W4W, my reply box looks normal, for now... I'm on the laptop, which is windows 7, the desktop is older, it's Vista, sometimes I do get a blank reply box, but usually while I'm typing it reloads with all the frills and my typing is still there... maybe that won't work anymore. but I did get "error uploading photos", which I've never had before, and can't show you the gang sunning themselves... it was so nice out yesterday and today, well into the 40*s, sunny... we had so much fun today, we let the chickens out first thing this morning, and spent a few hours outside. I can't show you those pics either

we met "Grampa" at the wildlife rescue after breakfast of thick french toast slices... we saw chickens, peafowl, like 6 different kinds of owls, red tails, eagles, pigs, donkeys, horses, alpaca...and 2 really cool bobcats. there was a cute rooster that followed Mylee around, he got jealous when she found the barn cats - ooooh kitties! - he was stamping his feet and doing this movement that resembled a hen settling in on her nest. she was so torn... wanting it all, and all at once. it was sweet to watch Grampa carry her over the tractor ruts and mud, and she was very vocal about it, which made him laugh... pointing at it and saying thank you Grampa for carrying me, that's MUD!

then, I finally got my taxes done. golly it's last minute and I can't stand that! I had an appt in Jan. but had to cancel bc of work...and never got a chance to get over there til now. it's done. phew. the rest of the day is a blur of running and visiting, and letting her show me all the new things she's found. she's a blast.......... and I sleep really really soundly! anyway, we had 4 eggs today, and we ate them all for dinner at Mylee's request. tonight it clicked for her how to open the egg by pulling, and not crushing the shell. she did great on 10 eggs, next lesson will be cracking them. it's nice to be with so much pure energy, exhausting at times, but really nice.

Anh.Busch makes a GF beer called Red Bridge. it's made from Sorghum and it's red. it's really good, 'specially right after a bath. I gotta wait til after, my whole bathroom is tile, and too many animals that like to boomerang around the room... broken glass, I could pour it into a plastic cup...
