Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I had one similar to this. It was slightly crunchy with just a light layer of shell.

the speckled egg is from another new layer!
I really like that speckled one! Big for a new layer? Wonder who it is.

the Wee Gang are huge. huge birds. the new eggs for the most part are big for pullet eggs. Blu's eggs had the same speckle when she was young. she has had really smooth, evenly coated eggs for months.

I just went out to look again for eggs... I only have 2 for today, Peach's and Ms. White's (not her name...) tiny egg. all the boys started crowing, and a few of the girls got down to see if I had any treats... no eggs. so I'm betting that they've buried them in a new spot. fresh straw... it might take a couple of days to find it. sneaky they are!
 
I set my eggs at midnight. 7 BCM and 7 blue mixes. It looks like 5 Ameraucana and 2 EE. With the way the EE have been laying, it is possible. The results will be interesting.
The BCM (you may remember) are not laying the dark eggs they should be. I was offered better eggs now that I have an incubator, but we (the owner and I) agree that I should do my virgin run with my own eggs to get comfortable with the whole thing, and see how bad of a human I am (how many chicks I murder).
The blue eggs are probably EE chicks. My Am is not always covered by her partner. Sometimes my RIR covers her. The EE layers are covered by the BCM, so the babies should (my understanding) by OE.

zero eggs found this morning. early day, so I will dig around later, it's time to remove some of the depth of the litter... I have to stoop inside the dome now... last year, I could stand up pretty straight. they've made some great dirt! yesterday, the 2 kennels were delivered, the gentleman would take only $20 for delivery... I know he needed someone to come help him load it up, I offered $60 for his time and trouble and gas and so he could do something nice like get a pizza...he wouldn't take it. friends will come up today to help me set them up. decided on one 10x20 run with the 2nd door panel between... I'll have one panel left over. I have a gigantic tarp that I can use for a roof, and a couple of heavy branches for roosts, although, I will probably pick up some more from my friend at the lumber yard.
 
My flock was not happy that I fixed the tarp in the coop. They tried to tear it down to lay behind again (BR did it) but couldn't get too far, so I had a pile of eggs there in the sand.
I bought one of those metal ... thingies. Like a flat shovel. I need it to break up the sand the got packed down in the coop with all the winter moisture getting in. Once the sand is rotated, fairly clean and dry, I can add more sand. I will then put a new door on. This time there will be a pop door and a ramp. I figure with a ramp, less mud and snow will get tracked into the coop, and with just a pop door, less rain and snow will blow into the coop. I am still trying to figure out an overhang to help with the rain coming in. Another benefit of the pop door is that I will make it accessible from outside the run.
The older chicks are standing by the door (screen with the storm windows in) looking out. It is driving the neighbor's cats crazy. I check to be sure the door is shut firmly several times a day.
Once the big coop is all cleaned/fixed up, I can close the dividing door, and put Rocky and some girls in there. That will give him his own brood, and I can then know who the baby daddy is when hatching.
The bantam OEGB looks to be a boy now. At (just a day or two shy of) six weeks, the comb popped up last night. So one boy in the older chicks, and one in the younger. The bantam will probably stay because I plan to have a bantam coop. The GLW may stay if I like them enough to reproduce them.
I really hope that is all the boys. I am still not good with my own meat.
OK, how is the Mama doing?

I'm still sad... I miss her... but we've spoken on the phone several times, and she always says "I'm coming back soon Omi"

I have eggs for today. 5. 2 pullet eggs, one from Ms. White. one from ??? in the dome. I also got 1 RIR egg, and 2 large light blue eggs. Not Isis' blue green. might be double yolks... but for sure, I have 2 new blue egg layers. I do have pictures. have to get them out of the cam first and I have a tub running. I'm so sore. my friends blew me off today, so I put the kennels together by myself. not too hard, just awkward and they are not where I want them permanently, but it will do for now.
