Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

OK, the girls look great, and it's nice to see Roger all humble-like and nesting... Peach is flat as a pancake herself covering 5 large fowl eggs... but she's determined! she did get up this morning when I brought feed out, but she was back on the eggs by the time I finished feeding the boys.

today was spectacular! gorgeous sunshine and light breeze, mid 70's. I invited my friend Ruth up for the afternoon. she loves the chickens, and we spent virtually the entire day outside on the swing with the awning, so it was shady for us. I made sandwiches and she wanted to picnic with the birds... I told her they would beg and try to steal... but she said she didn't mind. well, it was a lot of fun, and the girls were absolute pigs about it. Blu had mayonnaise beak, and I lost half my bread to Rose on one jump! but we laughed and laughed...(no pictures!

I'm such a knucklehead) and we tried to get them to eat a dill pickle. a couple of them actually liked it and ate it down to the skin over time (with lots of head shaking, lol) the gang did me proud, were very gentle and tame once the sandwiches were gone, more than a few let Ruth pet them. Ruth is 85 btw... I think I mentioned that before, when Mylee was here and we had the birthday party... same lady... we had a blast! we had collected 8 eggs in the early afternoon, and she was treated to a rousing chorus of the egg song when Isis laid ~ the boys were singing along and the girls all flocked back to the dome to celebrate, so I have 9 for the day and maybe more. I will go back out at 7:30 for the final check... last easy day for the next 2 weeks so I'm so glad I maximized the enjoyment!

What a great day! And your descriptions are so good I don't need pictures, I can see it in my mind!

Maybe Peach will hatch out some girls this time. My broody Ameraucana is still at it, even when I take the eggs away.

I am dog sitting my sister's large dog whom is still a pup. Always wants to play, and has GAS!

I swear I am going to pass out!
He got the flashlight from next to the brooder. He can't reach it (okay, a lab can reach anything they want to) but if he keeps bumping the dresser (a Tall Boy) damage may be done. He keeps eating my dog's food (8 lb dog = 5 lb bag of dog food, 80 lb puppy = 50 lb bag of food)
and Sturgis won't ouch Oden's food. I just don't have enough food to feed them both through the weekend until I can get to TSC to get more Sturgis food. Not to mention, the stuff is $10/bag! I have tried feeding separately, feeding Sturgis by hand. The dogs are not cooperating.
There is also a lot of muddy paws and vomit to contend with.
I am also getting anxious about the hatch, which is due Wednesday, but due to low temps, may not hatch until Friday!

Then DH's aunt was back for the past 2 months, and finally agreed to go to an assisted living facility. It is a nice place, but I am not sure if she will make it. Well, that is another story. Point being that I have a ton of cleaning to do now that she is gone. She left her germs behind (you don't want to know!) so carpets to clean, furniture to clean, ALL of my dishes to re-wash, and her special food has to be disposed of.
I have a lot going on the next week.
Okay, I am done whining. I just wanted to share my stress with people I know understand. Thank you!

Try locking your dog up with his food in the bathroom, if you must, put a bit of peanut butter on it and he should eat it...or wet it. Sometimes that helps. I had to feed the girls separate when they first came to me because Maggie never stopped eating. It was gross...I understand the vomit part.

Sorry to hear about DH's aunt. As family ages it's so hard to try and keep up with their illness and you want to take care of them. But so e times it is best left to the professionals. I wish you luck in the next week with the hatching. I will be cleaning like mad myself....four new hens coming tomorrow. I stripped my girls coop and cleaned it, moved it. I'm finishing the new girls temporary townhouse in the morning..just got home from Home Depot. Lots to do! Spring is here...time to clean lol.

I can officially make breakfast!

My lil amercauna is laying every other day. Such a good girl! However, my RIR and BR still haven't. They are rounding week 22-24. Amercauna is 25 weeks or so now.

Sturgis will not eat human food. Meat, cheese or pb. That is the problem. Oden is on a raw diet. As in raw meat and vegies. And Sturgis refuses to eat without me in the room. Both are being idiots. Even putting Oden outside, Sturgis wasn't ready to eat. This is fun!

Congratulations.....you waited it out. The BR will probably hold out till last. They have learned that eggs are bargaining chips to get what they want. If its worth it to you give them a PIE

MC... it's never ending... family issues and cleaning... I never seem to make much of a dent in either, feel like I'm spinning my wheels most of the time... we're always here to listen... and help if we can! you are such a good person, always extending yourself to help others. maybe if you put the dog bowls a few feet apart and plop yourself inbetween... you can defend one from the other, make sure everyone eats, and not get trampled too badly...? my pup is the same, won't eat if I'm not in the room...

wooohoooo! potential hatch for OK tomorrow night! so exciting... and more next week... and only 19 or so days for Peach!

later all! hope everyone has a great day! double shift for me, but the weather is great, 70 and sunny for the afternoon, it's already hit 50 this morning...

Good luck ROGER, put your hat on and get ready to be a mommy.

So today was adoption day! We adopted four girls from a fellow back yard chicken lady who had to give them up before her move. These girls are older than mine and my husband built them the town home as temporary housing this morning. I will post pictures of them tomorrow, as they have had a stressful enough day.

The EE we adopted today laid the egg right on top...cream colored. I sat her in the town house and she literally dropped an egg at her feet.

Okay that loaded totally different photos...the photos above are of Ethel ( barnvelder) and Jessica (red) here are Lucy and the eggs
