Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

So we started with 14 eggs. We are down to 11. Big broody has seven. Roger has four. How many will hatch and survive the first week? Whats your predictions?

Quote: Heard a story today of a broody Welsummer that was given eggs to hatch. Brooded them like a pro, good hatch, but then attacked the chicks the next day. Killed one, scalped and injured a few others. You just never know.

Don't forget to give the exiled hens someplace to lay or you will have mud eggs. Cardboard boxes are great!
I plan on giving the laying hens a box in the run. I hate doing that because they are good about using the nest boxes. But they stay out there in the run all day anyway and will have food and water. I will let them in when its time to roost. Just a temporary arrangement. I will be better prepared next time. And know my broodys better as well. Thanks for the good advice

Sorry guys so horribly busy, trying to play catchup on all the posts. OK~ if she keeps taking off on the hatches may have to give hers back to the BO

She is pretty dedicated. She is just not going to let mommy duty get in the way of eating. She is addicted to scratch. And she would kill over PIE

She may surprise you and teach the babies about pie early!!!
That's exactly what I was thinking!!

I wish you guys could see our little manly Serama cockerel. He clucks and calls the pullet over for treats, and then depending on how choice the morsel, will gulp it down himself, clucking all the while. I broke down and bought some dried meal worms to help hand train them. Well, it taught them to behave like sharks! Maybe she will teach the chicks to be piranhas!!

The Seramas got handled quite a bit today and they did surprisingly well. Got over being freaked out pretty quickly.
