meant to also say... Sally... how aggravating! glad that the guy was nice and all... and he's probably just informing you that there is a complaint, not that there is anything anyone can do... when I lived on Long Island back in the 90's, we kept our fireplace lit 24/7/365 for the years of '98-'99 as my partner was terminally ill and always freezing, so the living room was always about 90*. the county had no laws or ordinances about burning, I could have burned rubber tires if I wanted to,,, which of course, is ridiculous... but the board of health knocked on my door one day to let me know that a neighbor had complained. she hangs her laundry out to dry and because the fireplace was always cranking, her laundry always smelled like a campfire. the lady was really nice, told me I can burn whatever I want... she was just letting me know. I went to the neighbor and apologized and explained why the fire was always lit. she felt dreadful for complaining and told me she didn't want to make a compromise, she wanted me to keep the fire going... that was the place where we had chickens. I gave her eggs from then on... it just stinks that they couldn't approach you and learn something before complaining................ hope the guy doesn't come back!
I hurried home so I could fix the boxes that the broody and the chicks are in. Was trying to get water to them as well as some chick starter. Wanted some kind of "fence" so nobody falls out of those boxes and at the same time wanted to provide water and food to the broody and chicks. This is what I threw together. Interested in your thoughts.
Big broody's

good Mama! Peach was the same. the spankin' part too... She's so beautiful really... I know her reputation, so don't tell her... it'll just go to her head and make it worse for everyone... but she's become so shapely and full figured in maturity... Betty is still in full molt and looks a sight and Wilma is certainly full figured, but it's because she's a pig. oh yeah... so is Roger...but she sure is a perty girl!
BO Mama will show you in the morning I bet!I think I saw one chick under the BO. I for sure saw two eggs under her. The girls are not sleeping outside. I made them stay in the run all day today so the hatch could continue with out all of the midwife's getting involved. I don't think they mind staying out. Looks like they mud wrestled all day. They are roosted in the coop right now. Looks like they have shoes on. I think it's mud.
Awww

Quote: Yes, lots of feathers, I am hoping some of the pics today will come out ok, will post shortly. ETA" they were at tractor supply, I grabbed the few that were left in the bin! They were mislabeled, but I knew they were banty's and sikies(I told my favorite cashier what they were so she didn't get in trouble tho)![]()
She (this morning) was looking around and even pecked at the syringe. And also doesn't seem to be leaning as far to the side.
Great news and I bet she willl continue to improve!![]()
Okay so I had a great day turn into a day that just gets me MAD. I am one of those people whom just tries to be nice to everyone. I make an effort to be nice because most people say I look angry most of the time. Anyways, my day started with me actually building a nesting box for my girls...much bigger and spacious (which I think they don't like now). So I finish that up and start having a nice chat with my neighbor whom I had given eggs to for the first time this past weekend. An older man walks up my driveway and starts chatting with my husband so I think nothing of it. Well I finish my neighbor conversation and walk to the fence by the driveway to find out someone complained we have chickens. I was shocked and my husband looked ticked off. So I ask the gentleman if he needs to come and inspect the girls or if he would like to see the coop. He says "nope". I was like, is there something you need from us? "Nope". I was holding four eggs so my husband goes "want an egg?" . Town guy goes "nope". At this point I am just standing there wondering what he wants...and I say, "I checked with the town before getting my hens, they said there was no problem with me having girls, I just couldn't have a rooster" He says "Oh you can have a quiet rooster, just no loud roosters" ...He asks if we let them run around loose in the front yard, I was like "no"...he says "Well have a nice day"...
He never even came in the back to see the girls, although Jessica was standing next to me the entire time. My husband said they all have names and that they are our pets. Basically he was ready to tell the guy off and had already defended the girls before I came over (I later learned). The guy was really sweet and nice...it just bothers me so much that a neighbor couldn't just ask me or approach me to say "Hey, I don't like your chickens". Does that make sense? I let it ruin my entire day, which bothers me more. I gave out two dozen eggs this week to two neighbors, I only have a neighbor next door and one behind me that can even see the girls, both of whom told me they are fine with it.
Now I am going to hatch eggs....OH and the guy told my husband there is a limit of 25, but the town told me no limit on hens....tomorrow I am going to get the law in writing from the town...Just in case I need it. I am angry! I have become attached to my girls and I can't imagine anyone complaining about them. They make no noise. I live abutting a state highway and have a publishing company across the street that makes more noise than anything. Dogs in the neighborhood who don't stop barking, loud kids, motorcycles, atvs, trucks and someone complains about my chickens? My backyard chickens in their pens inside my fully fenced back yard inside a fully enclosed coop or inside my second fenced in garden. ....
rant over....thanks for listening.
P.S. the picture above is my adopted welsummers egg at the front...its awesome!
