Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Another good hatch Tuesday, finish off with 12 new GLW chicks, 1 BR (healthy legs this time) and 2 Cornish Cross/GLW mix!

Been waiting to officially announce.. yep they do lay, and I have 2 hatched this week. Very robust, big chicks!






they are splashed with black flecks, mostly white in color. I didn't think the white would be dominant? Really big hearty babies! Now the question will be, can they also breed, lay eggs etc.... pretty exciting! So the whole story about dead at 12 weeks, and won't lay are just not true.
Also recently realized one is a ROOSTER, not a hen. Realized it the day I saw him CROWING!

Tank is a boy. Should have seen it when the hackles were getting longer. He is now keeping up with Red and I need more aprons, poor girls... LilX is a hen, we are thinking renaming her "Bertha". I feel kinda stupid, but Tank was just not very aggressive until Butters joined the coop last week (2 weeks, i dunno now) And He joined in the crowing match with the other 3 boys. When I thought i saw him laying, he was just sitting with Lilx, in front of her while she was laying, just like Red does with his girls.

Yay for all of the baby news! I personally love the fact that there are so many possible appearances (when not breeding for sop, obviously) in chickens. My crew is coloring out nicely, can't wait til I get some babies from these crosses. I guess I have to wait till they start layin though, huh? XD I have noticed my white EE (I think) and a few others starting to make nests in the shavings. My Road Runner is turning out to be a good little roo. Fran looks rather bedraggled and crazy...maybe juvenile molt? He's also a bit aggressive. He pecks and chases everyone away from the 2nd food bowl and stands in it....he likes to act like head honcho...but he's a tool. Road Runner just moves out of his way and goes about his business. Might be something wrong with Frannie...he always has his tail down...nothing else strange but his bad feather days (read:every day).
Anyhow, think we're going to finish the nest boxes this weekend and put all these dang easter eggs to good use!

sad sad day today. bad accident, my friends Dad was killed. don't know if the other person had fallen asleep at the wheel or was texting... but she hit him head on... the way the scene looks, he knew what was coming. he was way off the road, and she hit him anyway. car caught fire. I can't stand it. he was a great great man. a great believer in humanity, in second chances... he was a Judge, one you wouldn't want to go before a second time... if you know what I mean... his disappointment in being let down was often enough to crush the hardest punk. He was a Mountaintop Icon, always helping, always thinking of others... RIP Donald Olson <3

I am sorry for the loss of such a wonderful person. My prayers to you and your friend.

First, congrats. Second, I really want Chicken McNuggets now. The heatlamp is making them look the color of nuggets.

15 eggs today, and raining, but I let them out for a little while anyway, the only ones to give me a hard time going back in were the 6 older girls from the original gang. spoiled rotten hens!

more double routes to come all next week... finishing up with the guy who had a heart attack tomorrow. he'll be back to work on Monday. cancelled the other town this week so I could cover in Prattsville, the man who died is the father of the carrier there... I will cover his route next week, probably everyday, not sure, definitely Monday, as his Dads funeral is Monday... and Saturday, as the public memorial is Saturday... I'm sorry I cannot attend the memorial, but the mail has to be delivered... and we'll play Tuesday through Friday by ear... if he wants to work... he can, and if he gets partway through and decides he can't finish, I will come and finish. he can change his mind at the last minute. I understand and I will be there.

I am so sick of rain!

soaked to the skin twice yesterday, and again today... Ever try to run with a squawling baby goat that freezes when his feet get wet and won't budge

My neighbor must love watching the daily comedy at my house.. I was laughing so hard at Bo, I could barely pick him up. WOW does that mouth get big when he cries!
