Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hey Everyone Its been a crazy few days here. I have to get pictures of my latest girls up here. I am glad all your large fowl girls took in so many eggs...but no one has any bantam broodys?

Okay so I had my best day yesterday at 13 eggs 100% on my girls part !!!

So on to the interesting news....I decided to introduce the girls on their own terms. So I opened the garden fence up...no one really invaded the others area. Next thing you know (I was trimming the bushes and I hear a funny noise behind me) My Jessica had come in and was pecking the ground so the EE Adoptee and my RIR got into a fight like they were boys....they started up and my husband and I both ran towards them which they stopped immediately and both went to their corners. I seperated them and Jessica and I had a talk about it. I also trimmed my welsummers crossbeak and noticed Lucy my BR in the garden bathing with the adopted Ruthie and J Lo...so not all the introductions went bad. Everyone slept seperate and we will continue the slow introduction another week. I think eventually I am going to put them together in one of the coops at night so they just wake up with new neighbors. Not sure yet. Might keep them seperate from now on...who knows. Will post pictures later.

Oh and today I round up all the girls and get them cooped up, so I can grill in peace. My son goes "Mommy check this out", turn around and he learned how to let them all out

I just gave up and left them out. Will go round them up and get some pictures of the new girls.

Thanks cheeka. How old was the chick before you let them (Peach & Pebble) join the rest of the flock? This is a real pain keeping everybody separated. Roger and Little Roger in jail. Big Broody and her three chicks in the main coop. The rest have to stay out in the covered run all day.(they don't mind in fact prefer it) but I have to separate everybody every morning and let them back in every night. Separate their foods, ect. Will be glad when they are all one big happy family. I need to start building now that the garden is planted.

Isa-Sex-a-link. They are about 2 years old and still doing well. A calm, hearty bird. Only thing they all look so much alike that i can't identify whose unique personality belongs to who, which is always such a lot of fun.

Sally, such cute pics! my broody is a bantam, so she can't take more than 5 LF eggs, right now she's sitting on 3, might hatch today.......

OK, I let everyone free range together when Pebble was 3 weeks old, can't remember exactly, but there was still snow on the ground. I supervised, but Peach did a super job defending him. they still slept separately. by the time he was 7 weeks old, Peach had taught him to roost at night, and she turned broody again. that's when Olive started fostering him. they are all fine together, no issues, he's chest bumped his way into acceptance by the bigger girls... and i had no issues integrating just the one bird which i thought was unusual... recommendation is minimum of 3...

Five would be perfect. I can keep seven and she could have five....when she is old enough lol. So my husband and I have some major chicken plans for the next year. Iam wondering ifi should sketch it all out ( I suck at drawing but dh can do it). I've been trying to play with ideas and what I want eventually from all the chickens. Really I've just fallen in love with them as pets. I love finding eggs,but I don't even eat them that much. I do bake like crazy. Now my husband has really caught on to the chickens. He texted me Saturday because he had found some co workers who wanted to buy eggs. So now he is talking about them at work . I think it's catchy. I put some oyster shells in yogurt yesterday because I got my first and second soft shelled egg. Now they have been free ranging a lot so I am thinking maybe that is the problem? They have oyster and grit free choice in the run but apparently have been skipping it? I figured in the yogurt no one would pass it up. Ay other suggestions?
