Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Good luck with the build W4W, My husband is outside today building for me. Had to take the car to be inspected and hit the gym this morning....Now I am searching for new eggs. I was tempted by rhodebars last night and even sent a payment in case they happened to be still available. Sooooooooo....suggestions? I have someone who is willing to sell me Lavendar Orps...I love the look, my husband thinks they look dirty.

So what to buy what to buy?
Thanks Sally, I might need that luck. Have to drag the youngster out of bed so we can get started, it's almost noon!!! He has been growing like a weed this summer and the doc said the extra sleep is good for him so I have been indulgent. School starts soon enough.

You can get anything!! How about Cream Legbars which can be color sexed after hatching and lay blue eggs. I would try to go as local as possible. Shipped eggs always seem to have problems.

PIC HEAVY!

Lindz, that is beautifully done, I would stain it to seal it....I bought paint for one of my coops and its a green color...I worry that it will chip or somehow not be good for the chickens...crazy lady I am.

I took pictures to share of this mornings going on...

he looks so happy doesn't he?

Yup.

But he is doing an amazing job. Very professional looking.

What breed is Tommy? Splash Andalusion? If so, the entire breed is flighty, not just Tommy.
I interupted Tommy three times while she tried to lay...every time she would run out of the nesting box so fast I didn't even see her...she ran down the ramp (thats when I would know who it was) out the coop and around the shed. She is so flighty. I had to feed her treats to make her come back and calm down.

After that I was screwed....Happy Hen Treats for all.
Is that a Wyandotte second to left? Very pretty!!

No idea on the sex, but they're sooo sweet!

Chilling in my garden...brought it in with my celery by accident...had to let it go once I noticed. My brother in law was holding it for the picture.
What?! You didn't give it to the girls? My girls go buggy for bugs. Brings out their dino-side.

Cool coop. I would paint or stain it whatever will give off the least amount of fumes. Can't imagine it would be good for the chickens, but then again I'm extra sensitive to that kind of stuff.

As for the trilling-pooping chick, as long as the plumbing is functioning, I wouldn't worry. Since they are on shavings, make sure they have some grit. My chicks always end up eating shavings, so they need grit or coarse sand.

Not sure about the breed on the dark chicks. Probably a common black hatchery breed. If their eyes look solid liquid black, they could be Australorps (which I love).
Thanks W4W! It is the funniest thing to hear that chick! And I just went outside and let the big girls out since it has been rainy here all day, so I got some pictures of them too as you requested yesterday!! (plus I just got a new smartphone so I am excited about being able to post pictures now!)

Clarabelle (B.Cochin) and Jezabell (G.C) and some of the other G.C.

Doodle- Our B.Cochin Roo.

Some of the young Cochins.

Golden comet hanging out on a grapevine!

EDITED TO ADD: Can guineas cross with chickens? The little grey chick in the 3rd picture reminds me of guinea chick head on a cochin chick body...

yeah Sally, that one hen... well all of them, very gorgeous, but that one 2nd on the left, she's really colorful! keep those pics coming everyone! my gang is molting, all of them... some are worse than others, but no one looks that great except for Peach and her chicks and the 4 new boys... Peach has all new feathers already, she was a sight in the Spring... the younger half of the gang is 8 months old and sheesh... juvenile molt wasn't nearly as noticeable with the older half, Wilma was the only one... she lost all her tail feathers. anyway, they all run from the camera as if they know their crowning glory isn't photo worthy.

the front steps are redone.... I had help... amazing,, no more cracks for weeds to grow!

walls off to either side are next!

nice flock lindz! I love Cochins
lindz,
x2, about the cochins too! I don't think guineas and chickens will mate. That blue chicken is just going through the awkward teen stage. It will probably be beautiful!

cheeka, did you get the day off or just a short shift? Your house is looking great. Inspiring me to get busy around here. So thrilled you get to have Mylee there again this summer. She's going to love the silkies and Chester. Hope the weather cooperates this time!

Thanks guys! I love them too! They are so mild mannered and they are the softest of any of them!

W4W, she is a very pretty girl, just different! I guess she may be a blue/mottled cochin cross...

W4W, thanks! it's been a lot work, but it has been kind of fun... and it is starting to look good. the staircase needs more work, the stain doesn't match, and I mixed a few and got close, I needed to do another coat but my handyman put a coat of poly on it this morning... so now it's all uneven and shiny. great

..........and YES! I am super psyched to have Mylee come back! when I first got Chester, she had called to basically scream and hoot and holler THANK YOU OMI! YOU GOT ME A PUPPY! she's called everyday since to ask about him, and all the other critters as well, but it's always "how's CHEST-er?" first... they will love each other... and of course, she will adore the Silkies. she loves the beetles in the meal worm farm for Heavens sake...the kid has "animal lover" DNA

Okay so I ordered Rhodebars and Legbars....next week they shall come...waiting on eggs!

So Hubby is wonderful and he and I are actually headed to Home Depot tonight to go buy some screws and some of that plastic roofing stuff that I see so many people have on here :) He wants to cover the baby chicks with it and a section of the run from the big girls place.

Tommy is a splash andalusian and YES the breed is so flighty ...she is the one I chased through the snow last winter in the middle of the night. We almost had tommy for dinner the next day. She is also the one that my dog picked up that day. I feel kind of bad for her because she actually has become a regular layer and a good chicken but she just acts like a road runner. Smarter than most of the girls though.

The second to the left ? Not the one in the back right? That is a GLW and I call her Charlotte...her lace reminds me of webs. I love how the sun hits her and she just shines. She is the only girl who didn't get sick that time in June. The one thing I wish I could capture on the camera is the coloring in the two black girls (jersey and australorp)..the green sheen on them is gorgeous.
