Ok, first attempt yielded 113 before we tried something different. Right now I am at 97, and the thermometer only goes up by whole degrees... (throw together job remember!LOL)99.5
We also have another hatchling that was still wet when we went down a few minutes ago. I had to open the door so the rest of the girls and Rogue could get into the coop. I will go back down in a bit to close up for the night. One of the brooder chicks (I know, they are out of the brooder now, but the name has stuck) got too close to the nest and Clarabelle puffed up and went after them. In that few seconds I was able to get a picture of the newly hatched chick! Not a great one, but decent! The first one came out of an egg from 8/19 and the second was an egg from 8/20. There is one more egg from 8/19 that is a Buff Orpington X Buff cochin egg, and the rest are all Buff Cochins. I am really hoping that more of them hatch. The other eggs were laid on 8/21-8/24 and the one egg from Amelia's clutch was laid on 8/28. I figure I will give her 2 more days and then take the eggs and finish them in the house? Or should I just watch her and see how long she will sit? She is keeping the fluffy from this morning under her but lets it stick its head out. I am so happy to have the little peepers!
AND...... I went and picked up the 3 year old Blue Laced Red Wyandottes today. They are big girls, and the dog cage I put them in to transport was HEAVY!!!!! They look like they are molting, and the lady said that she just wormed them this morning, so I have to throw away any eggs for the next 2 weeks. She said that they haven't laid in about a month, but she hasn't supplemented lights, so they should start back after they finish molting. I have them separated from everyone for a few weeks so we make sure we don't bring anything in. Lots of new changes going on around here!
Cheeka, we want to see pictures of Mylee on her new bike! And you better watch out or she will have the chickens riding shotgun on the handlebars!
