Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Ok, first attempt yielded 113 before we tried something different. Right now I am at 97, and the thermometer only goes up by whole degrees... (throw together job remember!LOL)

We also have another hatchling that was still wet when we went down a few minutes ago. I had to open the door so the rest of the girls and Rogue could get into the coop. I will go back down in a bit to close up for the night. One of the brooder chicks (I know, they are out of the brooder now, but the name has stuck) got too close to the nest and Clarabelle puffed up and went after them. In that few seconds I was able to get a picture of the newly hatched chick! Not a great one, but decent! The first one came out of an egg from 8/19 and the second was an egg from 8/20. There is one more egg from 8/19 that is a Buff Orpington X Buff cochin egg, and the rest are all Buff Cochins. I am really hoping that more of them hatch. The other eggs were laid on 8/21-8/24 and the one egg from Amelia's clutch was laid on 8/28. I figure I will give her 2 more days and then take the eggs and finish them in the house? Or should I just watch her and see how long she will sit? She is keeping the fluffy from this morning under her but lets it stick its head out. I am so happy to have the little peepers!

AND...... I went and picked up the 3 year old Blue Laced Red Wyandottes today. They are big girls, and the dog cage I put them in to transport was HEAVY!!!!! They look like they are molting, and the lady said that she just wormed them this morning, so I have to throw away any eggs for the next 2 weeks. She said that they haven't laid in about a month, but she hasn't supplemented lights, so they should start back after they finish molting. I have them separated from everyone for a few weeks so we make sure we don't bring anything in. Lots of new changes going on around here!

Cheeka, we want to see pictures of Mylee on her new bike! And you better watch out or she will have the chickens riding shotgun on the handlebars!

Those broody hens can feel those eggs moving and won't give up on them. I would leave her with the eggs as long as she is willing to sit on them. Just my opinion. The chicks will be fine in the box with her and the remaining eggs. She will know when to quit sitting on eggs and get up with those chicks.

x2 what OK said...if she leaves them be ready to step in but wait for her to leave them.

I got a pip !

Going to bed soon though :( Work in the morning.

Thanks W4W I am thinking the same thing. 2 boys but holding out hope on the second.

Congratulations on all of the new chicks hatching. I took pictures and could not get them to post. All 11 chicks are doing fine. Opened the door and let RK Broody take them outside in the broody run this afternoon for the first time. Spent yesterday in Tennessee with my grandson so I missed you guys.

Can I make an incubator like the emergency one for full 21 day incubating? I only want to do 4-5 eggs at a time.

I've got a small fish tank, heat lamp, and some egg crate. Is it possible?

Today's haul was 3. From 8 layers. I love my
Blue eggs!

once I raised the seat an inch, she was able to really power pedal! she learned how to brake too - she's quite coordinated... I would love for her to take tumbling and a dance class... I'll get more pics tomorrow, the bike is small, but she has room to grow with it... the next size up was way too big. it's so cute, it has little Eiffel Towers on the training wheels, and I think there's one on the seat. and I found the Hello Kitty sticker that belongs on her bell, stuck to the sidewalk chalk package - it's back on the bell, hope it stays put!

OK, so nice to have a visit! can't wait to see pics as soon as you straighten out your 'puter issues...

x 3 what OK and Sally said about the eggs, leave em be til she gets off them, it's just having the good timing to grab them before they cool off too much
