Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Sully, mine are introduced by Peach when she's ready, usually day 3, and by the time they are 12 weeks old, they get moved from the small pen into the dome. as long as you add at least 3, it's pretty smooth, or at least the pecking gets spread out more - my last 3 intro's are doing wonderfully. the white EE has moved up the social ladder considerably already. Peachy raises peaceable but strong babies... with higher #'s, they'll be able to give each other good defense against the older birds. it'll be fine. I did wait for nightfall to move them in, but put them directly on the roost in the store bought coop, where no one else sleeps. they have slept in there ever since and a couple of the older girls have recently joined them. those roosts on the back wall of the dome are like Park Place and Boardwalk... only the creme de la creme get to roost there... even they have to get to their spots early or the jostling is silly.

I took the hose to the back wall of the dome today, got all the yuckadoo's off the hardware cloth... because the roosts angle in, those on the inside ends poop all over it all night long. it's going to be raining for a week, starting tomorrow probably, so I"m glad it's all cleaned out and nice,

OK, I can sure relate. We cleared another large section of land this weekend, and I am wupped. So much happening, love the pics! Hope the eye clears up for you cheeka.
I went through that with Red last fall, only him. and only one eye. I used the terramyacin (sp) eye ointment and he was fine after a few days.
Sweet Mylee, she is precious! I bet the house feels empty.
My youngest moved out on her own last weekend. Miss 21 and independent

Am so very proud of her, she has become a strong young woman.
Suffering a little empty nest feeling here as well. Also already making big plans for the bedroom~ (waiting a few months, tho)
Sully, if the chick starts to get a golden color to it, may be a french golden...

I had one in my first batch from that seller, it was one of the "extras" he always sends.
Beautiful birds! It was one of the 8 that a raccoon took from us early this summer.
Lindz your kitty is a cutie, bet she is so soft!

Ah, little Mylee sure knows how to tug on those heartstrings! Wouldn't that be something if you could live really close? She's in Arizona? Soooo hot, but AC will be your best friend!

Great that you could get the Denagard locally. I had to mail order it, a liter of the stuff, but figure it will get used eventually.

Chester sounds like like a champ. Very good company for Ruby too. Stopped at a pet store on the way home today, for no particular reason, and may have found my new cat. She is part Siamese with blue eyes, and is a very pale gray color with points that are only slightly darker. 2 years old and has had at least one litter of kittens, but she is tiny (kitten sized), exceptionally calm, but looks a little rough and worn. Nothing a bit of TLC won't fix. First cat I've seen since Sid disappeared that I'm seriously considering. Happens to be at the same store where I got Sid (10 yrs ago), although it is through a different rescue group. Have to see how Hubs feels about it. We all miss having a cat around.
Oh thats exciting, good luck!!!

............he's a good boy..........he's a good boy.............he is. but I spoke to soon. doesn't that figure? I got up this morning to find my 8 eggs from yesterday smashed all over from the kitchen to the living room, basket on the floor, half of them eaten in the kitchen, the other half in the living room. along with a big soft poop on the living room carpet. a week ago, I moved the gate from between those 2 rooms and put it in the corner of the kitchen to block the trash can. he's been perfect all week... well the gate is back up between the doors again. the carpet is a DuPont Stainmaster, it cleaned up easily, but who has time to mop the kitchen and clean carpet before work??? grr.

Oh no! Never brag on kids' or dogs' behavior! They always act up if you do! Lol.... my dane tends to eat my stuff.... and only mine. I bought new muck boots 2 weekends ago and he already chewed a hole in the top of them.

Here is my special kitty.... she really needs a helmet sometimes.

Anyway, she is about 13 and thinks she is a dog! She had kittens when she was about a year and a half old and we had a blue heeler with puppies at the same time. Unfortunately, she decided she wanted to raise puppies instead of kittens and abandoned her babies. Luckily, the dog took care of puppies and kittens, and they all found homes when they were old enough!

Anyway... keeping fingers crossed that you get a new fur-baby!

Pretty girl!

If you do get a helmet for her, make sure it's has a camera. Crazy cat cam!
Maybe that's why I like the Siamese crosses; they are like dogs in a lot of ways. Sidney used to follow us when we'd take the kids on walks. He had white leg markings like your girl, and pretty blue eyes. When I was canvassing the neighborhood after he disappeared, one older gentleman said Oh, so you're the one who owns my cat! Apparently Sid would hang out with this man while he was gardening. If I do get this other new kitty, I want her to be an indoor cat. Sid hated to be stuck inside and refused to use a cat box, although he never messed in the house.

My hubs is really a pushover when it comes to me getting critters. I'm not much for shopping and girly stuff, so pets are kind of my indulgence. Knowing he's a pushover, I don't want to take advantage, though, so need to find the right animal at the right time. I usually give him at least a couple hours notice before I drag home a new family member!

Been thinking of what could fill your empty nest. Let's see, what don't you have?

Bunnies?

Maybe you'll just have to wait for grandbabies!
I've always loved watching the kids reach new milestones, and never pined for the younger years, but when they leave home for good, I imagine that will be quite a lurch for me.
Hope the rain gives you a little time for yourself. Take care!

Isn't that always the way? As soon as you say something..... And cleaning up dried on egg is a pain, too. I think these little moments of dismay are designed to keep us from becoming complacent. My mom used to say Never a dull moment! If you think about how destructive a dog can be, I suppose he really could have done much worse. He is a good boy!

aww, how cute are those 2 sid/sydneys!

lesson learned, no braggin' on the babies... he's still my good boy, but he's was still acting sorry when I got home from work. shouldn't even remember after so many hours, but I guess his past runs deep - only punishment for 4 years would do that... I didn't punish him. I put him outside just like every single morning - with a big hug and a good back scratch, and fresh water in the dish. of course I said No... a couple of times while picking up the poop...

it's so beautiful out, it was supposed to be cloudy, windy and later, rainy... I'll take this any day! here's a few of the sights from my route today:

mailboxes are good spots to get photos of creepy crawlies...

Those are gorgeous pictures... well except the spider...

I got pictures of Clarabelle and the babies a little bit ago!

Definately a little cockerel!

All 4 bantam buff cochins.

The waterer is a quart jar! This shows how small Clarabelle really is!
