Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

You're right! It's like a grown up version of an Easter Egg hunt. I'm almost sad now that mine will be in a coop/runn all day while I'm at work. It might be fun to have to look for them (in my head that is... probably not so much fun at 6:00am before work when I already sleep to the last possible minute).

Lindz - You should take a pic every year in the cart with the kids in the same position. That would be fun!

Cheeka - Sending house vibes your way. I tried selling my house earlier this year but unfortunately I'm too much under to make it worth it. Thankfully I found the best renter and that's going well. So until the market here rebounds a bit more I'm stuck with it. I think I'm in a good position tho. I'm renting to a single mom of twins who's husband cheated and stopped paying the mortgage. Anyway, her credit tanked so nobody would rent to her. I met her, liked her, and she has a decent job so I'm not too worried about the bad credit because of the circumstances. So anyway, it'll be hard for her to have too many options so I'm hoping she'll stay for a few years and I won't have to worry about selling again anytime soon.

I get to pick up my coop this weekend! Yay.... I wanted to pick it up earlier since it's been finished for so long but with football season it's hard to get my DH to do anything on the weekends (not that I blame him... I love football just as much and we have season tickets to the college games). Anyway, it's not even ready to go to it's permanent "fort knox" location yet so my dad and I will be building a mini-fort knox temporary run for it. Hardware cloth on the way from Amazon! I'm so worried about predators but I'm not afraid to make it as secure as can be... (I've done alot of reading on BYC so I think I'm prepared).

I just counted up all my eggs from the day that I got my first comet egg.... Since October 27th I have gotten 36 eggs from 7 GC's, 1 cochin, and 4 EE's (I think only 1 is laying).... and 27 of them are from the comets although 2 were softshelled.... WOW!!!!!! That many in 13 days!

Well, I ended up with 6 eggs again today! That brings this months total up to 32! Plus 6 more the last few days of October.

We used the cart this evening to haul some wood that hubby was splitting the past week or so. It was much easier than hauling and stacking it up by the armload. I noticed this evening that Rogue was limping, so I put on Hubby's work gloves and cornered him in the coop so I could check him out. That was an adventure! He was not happy with me at all. I couldn't find anything wrong, but he seemed really tender in the one leg. He is a big boy, and probably weighs between 8-10 pounds and he is less than 20 weeks old! Since I had ahold of him, I carried him around with his head under my arm while I finished up the chores and shutting up for the night. I probably won't be able to get anywhere near him for awhile! LOL.... he was very indignant when I let him down, and went straight into the coop!

Too bad for him, is that all the others were already in, and he lost his roosting spot.... I am hoping that I brought him down a notch or two.

SBMom, beautiful photo!

It is like a blizzard outside! just came in from Chester taking me for a walk... he was loving it, I need to put my snowsuit on for the next foray out into the night! I've (only) got almost an inch of snow, but it's super windy and nasty. I checked on the boys, as they are the only ones without wrapping over their pen. it's calm and quiet in the little stand of trees. I know it's a protected spot, that's why I put the pen there... but it needs tarping. Handyman will come up tomorrow afternoon and give me a hand.

5 Eggs today 3 first thing this morning, which I entirely forgot. so when I got 2 in the afternoon, I was all like... dang. then I saw the other 3 on the counter and remembered... phew!

lindz, maybe Rogue landed funky from the roost or something, keep an eye... AND it's good for Rogue to know who's boss, at least you had him tucked all cozy... when Royce needed reprimanding, I would carry him around by his feet, upside down, in front of the whole flock. Learning about chicken behavior... I read that they understand certain behavior better than humans. if there are 3 chickens; A, B, and C... and B beats up C... when C watches A beat up B, C knows that A can beat him up without testing the waters. they KNOW to avoid... so..... for my flock, Carl witnessed Royce being carried around like that. He has Never challenged me. and it's not because he's nice, he's not. he's smart.

I'm really glad someone bought this pullet. But I feel compelled to warn them. Think I should??

Fantastic egg numbers!
I have several roosters right now I have not had time to process, its a nightmare to go into the bachelor coop.
I have had 3 sets of feet in my hand teaching who is boss to the lil cockerels that aren't so little any more.
Filling the feeder one handed is a pain! Feeding time is when I check them all over too.

Little peep show :)
