Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I will try the golf ball & then if nothing I will lock her in for a few days. I haven't noticed her doing any checking but I gonna keep a closer eye (my new additions have kept me busy, but I will make extra time for my girl)
lol It's so easy to get on here & lose track of time! Drive safe!
I wanted to mention that adding the new chickens could also have slowed Coal down a bit. They are remarkably sensitive to change. Changes in the weather, food, the coop, a predator scare... pretty much anything can cause enough stress to interrupt laying. Then again, some are bomb proof and will lay regardless.

The only rule to which there's no exception is that there's always an exception! (There's probably an exception to that.

Yeah unfortunately, many of the "reasons for non-lay" we have already encountered grrr...She moved here 2 months ago so I know THAT could stall her for a bit.(although I don't think she was mature enough quite yet. We weren't quite prepared for chickens(They were given to me) We had a dog scare also so, THAT could contribute also..& who knows what other contributing factors there are that I'm not even aware of. lol

Welcome TeaChick! Once you get used to the taste of yummy fresh eggs from your own chickens, you won't want the store bought ones anymore (except maybe for baking). My 12 yr old son could barely choke down his restaurant eggs on one of our rare breakfasts out. He had only had home grown eggs for about 6 months prior to that, and got used to the delicious eggy flavor. Wish you could have seen his face when he took a bite of those pathetically pale eggs!

Hehehe! Funny though it was, it was also very gratifying that all the effort we've put into our little flock is appreciated.

Besides your cute white frizzle, what kind of chickens do you have? Oh, also, on this thread, pie is not exactly the kind of pie people eat, but is made especially for our feathered friends. I'll try to go back in the thread and find a picture for you.

Thanks for the welcome!

I experienced this morning what you're talking about. My DH is an egg conesuer (sp), so he noticed the difference right away; plus, he boiled some of each and did a taste test. It has made us want even more to avoid store-bought eggs.
I can imagine how he felt. lol
I'm putting a lot of work into my flock and I'm just beginning to get them to appreciate it by USING the new hen house I built them. lol Let alone getting any eggs out of them; they're pretending to be free-loaders right now, but I'm counting on them making up for it in the spring by giving me more layers (and roasters

Thanks, she's my favorite!!! My hens are 4 gold Comets, 3 white Leghorns, and a black Jersey Giant. My older rooster is half GLW and half LH; my younger rooster is half light Brahma and half Wayndotte (I forgot whether he's silver-laced or gold-laced; I'll have to ask my friend next time I talk to her, and write it down. lol)

Oh, thanks about the pie; I thought it was real pie. lol
Thank you in general. I like learning about chickens and chicken ppl and I want to know everything I can so I can take the best care of them possible!! Thanks!!!

Here are some of my favorite PIE pictures.

The first 3 are from the thread starter and Roger's dad, our good friend OK (okallthis4eggs).

Mine are not very imaginative and are actually more of a glorified salad. I still call it PIE so the girls don't feel cheated.

With that many hens, come spring you're going to need a separate fridge just for eggs. Do you think the two little eggs are from your new layers?

I got 3 yesterday and today it's raining (finally! yay!
ya.gif
) so don't know if that will change their routine at all. If they don't want to go outside to play in the puddles maybe they will lay eggs instead!

all those fresh eggs should be put in pretty baskets and photographed so we can see them before they are eaten! Congratulations for all the new layers!

W4W, you've got good news all around! hubby is home and it's raining! I know how much you need it! we had a little bit of snow overnight, and it's super windy and colder as a result. but the sky is blue and it's dry. I had one Marans egg first thing this morning, I've just gotten in and haven't checked for more yet. I've got a few inside chores to do right away... I'm making a huge pot of split pea soup and I'm going out as soon as it's all started.
