I got had today. I went and picked up a mixed variety of hens, all free. Very exciting, considering the mix will make for a gorgeous egg basket.
Now I know why they were free
One...single....lone.....barred rock. Ahhhh!!!!!!
I've had two other BRs, both loud, and always complaining. Got rid of them. Only to get another!!! I will attempt pictures later, of course, if she grants me permission.
He He - you are DOOMED!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for asking about George. I found someone else in town with new hatched chicks and got Astrid to keep George company. There is much happy chirping and pooping (no, that is not a typo) in the brooder.
It is a Brinsea. I hatched one egg out of seven, but they were shipped, it was my first hatch, they were delayed in the mail, and a zillion other things. I trusted my Brinsea's thermometer, but now that I have tested it with another measuring device, and because George hatched a little early and none of the other eggs hatched, I believe it ran 2 degrees warmer than it said it was. So, check it with another thermometer. Other than that, I love it. Very easy to use. Kept heat and moisture when I did lift the lid because of the dome shape. Very stable. Seemed easy to clean. Vents on the side meant no kitties sleeping on it and screwing up the ventilation. It was fun being able to see the chick so well, instead of through some little window, and when George was in there, she could see me on the outside and respond to me, which was adorable.
